Tells in Lusternia are IC, unless you put the little brackets around the message then suddenly it becomes OOC.
Why not have a channel called telepathy that's used to communicate IC'ly. The tells channel could then be geared towards OOC communication.
Syntax : tele
RM : suddenly enters your mind,
Colour Code : {m ? Anything but Megenta.
I like how the wind in the Plane of Earth scrambles some says. Not too sure if communicating by telepathy would override those VNUM'd rooms, but it's just wind so I would imagine so.
If you really wanted, you could add it as a low level skill in one of the AB's.
I just think it would give more of an RP feel to the mud.

As much as I like the RP of that, I am reserved about the idea.
First, if you place it as a low skill, the only one that makes sense would be Planar. That would push Teleport up, which is a no no.
Secondly, TELLS are what we use to prod novices when they don't reply on CGT.
Thirdly, TELLS are far far too essential to be in the skillset. Imagine if you had to learn Aetherchannels to speak on CT, or Probe in Discernment.
Lastly, I think it is fine as it is. Why fix what isn't broken?
This post made me think though. Why is it that we have to eat and sleep, but we do not have to answer nature's call EVER. Hrm.

First : Planar would be the perfect skill set actually. If Telepathy were to be inserted at a lower stage of the skillset Planar, would the number of lessons required to learn teleport have to be increased? I recall Squads being added recently to Combat, but I believe it's parameters were 0. I could be wrong though. Skills may need a parameter of 1 in order not to be classified as a passive skill.
Second and Third : I should of re-word my post a little better. I only meant Telepathy as a skill you would learn, not tells. As tells are strictly based around OOC arrangements, there would be no need to acquire them through game mechanics.
Lastly : True. It's a personal preference really.
An alternative could be just adding telepathy without even adding it into the skill set. Have a configtelepathy toggle ON/OFF button. If it's on, you can receive/send telepathy, if it's OFF you cannot send or receive telepathy. This way, the new players won't even have to deal with it during their learning curve, while the RP Buffs can use it at their leisure.

Yes, and it pushed off Leg Stance, which was originally the first skill in Combat.

Hrm. That would be slightly more feasible then. Although, what is the point of learning something that you already have? I know IC/OOC, but will other seperate it?

I'm fine with that, but again, like I said, if it ain't broke, why fix it?

I do not at all understand the purpose of all of this. Aethers and tells are all telepathy. And both are IC. What do we need another ability that does exactly what Tells do? And why the heck would we have to PAY for it? Is it really that difficult to put brackets around a Tell when it is OOC? There shouldn't be much OOC anyway, so you shouldn't be doing this very often. There's no point at all to adding this ability.

I don't care much for the idea, but I'm pretty sure that you can have as many skills as you want at 0% of inept, I think I've selected skillsets and started with more then one ability. Even if not, it doesn't have to bump teleport, because you can take a skillset with skills at 0% and 50% inept, and move the skills such that it has a skill at 0%, 33%, and 66% inept.

All communication is IC, only players recognize that certain things are OOC. It will never be officially embraced by the admins because it creates really dumb situations that place them in a pickle for issues. The only exception is the NEWBIE channel.

I agree with this way of thinking. I think that adding another tell variant would take away the RP feel, not add to it, because, as it stands, there is no separate way to talk OOC, without an OOC clan, and adding an OOC-tell would reduce from the IC-feel of the interface.

I dislike the idea because instead of subtly implying telepathy (as tells do) this ability would directly state telepathy... which takes a bit of the magic away from being a Telepathy skillset user.
