Item: Pouch Type: Accessories Org: LDT
Commodities: leather 2 silk 2 silver 1 greentint 1 bluetint 1 rope 1
Layer: ACCESSORY Bodyparts: waist
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: POUCH
Appearance:
a shimmering blue pouch
Dropped:
Reflecting shimmering hues of blue, a pouch collects dust here.
Examined:
This pouch radiates with a deep, vibrant blue and is unobtrusive, in a
rounded, rectangular shape, much like a thin box. A silver clasp on the
front forms the top of a delicately stitched silver waterfall.
Shimmering green stitching depicts a forest scene on either side of the
clasp, barely noticeable except when viewed from the front. The pouch
has been lined with a soft, green and blue silk, while the outside is a
shimmering blue silk over soft leather. A soft, blue-green rope has been
attached to the thin sides of the pouch, allowing it to be worn at the
waist without a belt. Indeed, it would be easy to overlook the belt
loop, as it is cleverly hidden behind some stitching depicting maple
trees.

Item: Robes Type: Splendor Org: Moonlace
Commodities: silk 85 ruby 40 gold 10 redtint 5 yellowtint 5 goldtint 5
Layer: NORMAL Bodyparts: chest, gut, arms, legs, waist
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: ROBES
Appearance:
a rich, formal fire element robe
Dropped:
Magnificent even in its neglect, a radiant formal robe rests here.
Examined:
This is a formal, floor-length robe with a high collar opening in the
front to a V-shaped neckline. It is gathered slightly at the waist to
give it some figure. The material is rich, deep-pile, uncrushable
velvet, deep red at the bottom and shading smoothly up through intense
red and bright orange to a brilliant yellow at the shoulders. The velvet
is chiseled in such a way that every movement sends flickers and flares
of reflected light cascading up the garment. Even in the darkest gloom,
the robe catches the slightest sliver of light and magnifies it to a
radiant glow. Around the back is a half-circle shoulder cape of the same
material and colours. Along the bottom of the robe are two inch-wide
stripes of luminous gold satin, a half-inch apart. Down the middle of
each stripe a row of fiery rubies set in lustrous gold goes right around
the garment. The ends of the voluminous sleeves each have a similar pair
of half-inch stripes of gold satin with rows of rubies in gold. On
either side of the V-neck are broad bands of gold satin merging at the
apex. Parading along this border is a row of blazing rubies set in
gleaming gold, giving the appearance of an exquisite necklace. The
collar is also gold satin, and inscribed on it in thread of the deepest
charcoal black are runes of creation, transformation, and destruction.
Stripes of gold satin run from the shoulders down the outside of each
arm and out to the sleeve, and are also inscribed with runes delineating
various aspects of the element of fire.

I submitted some robes and my Scorching Desert Whiskey.
These are my robes.
Unsettling astral greatrobes
Comms: silk 60 bluetint 5 purpletint 5 redtint 5 goldtint 5 cloth 15
Appearance: unsettling astral greatrobes
Dropped: A set of strange-looking robes have been dropped here, and are collecting dust.
Examined: Made of fine silk, these robes reach to the ankle and appear to be rather durable, though their colour is unusual, to say the least. A haze of violet hues swirls wildly over the outer wrapping, mixed with wisps of red and strange, twisting tendrils of deepest blue. The robes are lined inside with a deep blue fabric, covered with disturbing pictures of frolicking pink elephants, huge piles of gold, and random household objects bearing wide, toothy grins. Finally, the collar of the robes rises up to the base of the skull, and is dyed a deep blue with black lines radiating from the scalloped edges. If one stares hard enough, images begin to appear amidst the odd colours, showing strange and unsettling depictions of bizarre landscapes and abominable beasts. On the left sleeve, you can make out a tree covered in hands, while on the right, the indistinct image of what appears to be a set of scales grasped in a claw can be seen. Starting at the left shoulder and working down over the back, spots of deep red are visible, with an especially large one near the hem. Closer inspection reveals several small, tentacled urns bobbing in what appears to be blood. On the right shoulder, a blurry, seemingly disembodied eye gazes at you malevolently from within a swirl of blue mist.
Was hoping I'd place, but I guess I'll try next year.

Item: Gown Type: Highfashion Org: Creative
Commodities: silk 8 sapphire 1 diamond 1 opal 3 cloth 3 silver 1 yellowtint 2 redtint 2 purpletint 2 bluetint 1
Appearance:
a gown of the painted heavens
Dropped:
A colourful painting of the sky lies here in the form of a gown.
Examined:
Ivory charmeuse silk is fashioned into a v-shaped bodice and cascades
down from the cinched waist to the floor. Snow white birds of every
shape and size are embroidered into the silk of the entire gown.
Embroidered into the bodice are snow and platinum feathers which fall
over the shoulders and frame the neckline. Loose sleeves extend from the
bodice ending in a midnight-coloured trim. Rectangular cuts are made in
the sleeves revealing a midnight sky embroidered with stars. Opal
falcons set in silver, button up the back of the gown. To the left of
the waist is a diamond in the shape of Inedra. Blue sapphires have been
set in Inedra's eyes, her body set in silver. Held in place by the
jewel, several layers of diaphanous chiffon flow down the right
side of the dress. Petal-like in shape, the chiffon has been dyed
in the deep yellows, oranges, blues, magentas and purples of the
sunrise. Bright and saturated at the waist, the petals' colours
fade as they reach the hem. Soft and billowing, the white hem
moves in the breeze like a cloud. Sewn into the trim, in silver
thread, are many prayers to Lady Isune.

I'm also Celestian and brand new to these forums. I'm the one most likely to be eaten alive here, hehe.
Anyway, this design I would've gotten submitted to the Seal of Beauty competition, except that by the time the typos were corrected and tints were added, and the design reapproved, the deadline passed. Ah, "cest la vi" or however you spell it. Also note that this is my first design evar. (Remember, I'm a newbie, at least compared to the regulars on this forum.)

A scroll brushed with Tahtetso prayer markings lies here.
Examined:
Upon this scroll made of the best smooth yet palpable paper available,

familiar with the Tahtetso. Derived from the Kepheran language from
which many Tahtetso terms have originated and written from top to
bottom, the characters upon the scroll have been brushed with the utmost
care and precision, the lines aligning harmoniously with one another for
each character but still having the warmness of a touch that a printing
press cannot provide. Each written character represents a virtue that a

light originating from a single point. The individual characters are
each brushed with a different colour ink.

Catarin's crown-
a charred crown of unknown origin
Searing flames have left their mark on this once proud artifact of sovereignty. Glimpses of its former glory can be seen in the dulled lustre of an unmarred patch of platinum; the faint shimmer buried in the azure heart of a charred sapphire. These fleeting splendours serve as little more than a counterpoint for the tortured remnants that abide. Scorched gold writhes in a twisted mockery of elegant spirals, joined briefly in its eternal agony by fitful spikes of blackened coral. Sooty pearls, once radiant and secure in their settings, cling desperately to the band of the head piece. The price of failure manifests in the sockets of their lost brethren, sullen and glaring in their emptiness. Yet, despite the obvious frailty and abuse, the crown retains its form; proud and defiant it exists undeterred by the forces mustered under the aegis of elements and time itself. Bent but not broken, its scarred surface glimmers yet in the light.
Mariello's brooch-
a decagonal brooch of crimson tides
Fashioned mainly of a variety of jewels, this intricately crafted, decagonal brooch is no longer than five centimetres across from any side to the other. Polished to a smooth finish, flawless, iridescent opal establishes the distinct framework of this brooch. A small sliver of dark bloodstone travels around the entirety of the brooch, turning sharply upon reaching each corner, and twisting and looping upon itself to form the words, "And the waters shall be your salvation." Hanging from only four corners at the base of this brooch, thinly cut rubies droop in a blood like manner. Almost transparent, thinly shaved sapphire is encased inside the opal and bloodstone, marking the backdrop for which the other gems are laid upon. Reminiscent of a pristine beach, shiny gold is inlaid in the sapphire near the bottom with specks of sparkling platinum freckling the gold like rocks in the sand. Like tides rushing on to the beach and back out to sea, just above the golden inlay, a single, clear, blood coloured, red ruby has been thinned and shaped to mark the end of the golden inlay with a continuous wavy line. Crimson waves of various sizes, made from the same single red ruby, appear to crash amongst each other in the sapphire background of this brooch. Protruding from the crimson sea of ruby, in the middle of the brooch, a coral staff appears to stand in place, frozen in time upon the sapphire backdrop. Immaculate and opalescent, a pearl designates the tip of this partly submerged staff. In a myriad of colours, the various glistening jewels, gleam in even the briefest of lights.
Malicia's shield-
a winged heater shield incised with crossed blades
A vivid testament to the honourable and noble bearing of the one who wields it, this silvered shield has been crafted and designed with painstaking attention to detail. This heater shield is of precise proportions- its breadth extending across the topmost section in an uninterrupted line about two metres long before sloping downwards to meet at the foundation in a smooth point. The thick edges are heavily gilded and gleam intensely as light splashes over them. Five vertical lines of sable boldly trail along the great field of the shield, each an inch in width, with slashes of majestic azure among them. The imagery of two golden broadswords, grand and imposing, lies against the backdrop, criss-crossed and wreathed in a garland of silver lilies. Curious symbols of unknown origin trickle along the groove of each blade, ending at the joined collars, just before the guards. Artfully positioned along the sides are muscular angelic guardians, clad in golden chain mail with furrowed brow, their golden eyes knowing and engaged. The lifelike faces of the angels betray an eerie calm and determination as they reach with graceful, veined hands that come to rest at the tip of the swords, in support of the arrangement. Most noteworthy are their wings; seemingly downy and yielding as they fan outwards and away from the shield, each golden feather tipped with precious gems.

Didn't get to actually submit this one (there was some confusion with the Charites, so the mask got submitted instead, which had me surprised when I placed!), but I rather like it, and will probably find an excuse to wear it IC at some point.

A delicate pile of silk pools here; a dress, discarded by its owner.
Examined:
Dusky and deep as the darkening firmament at twilight, rich azure
colours hue this dress, the silky folds dyed masterfully to emulate the
span of the sky between day and night. Inky indigo, almost a sooty jet
black, frames the face and decolletage, while light boning offers a
complimentary fit to the female form. Tightly tracing the contours of
the body, the dress wraps around the torso, the material blushing
lighter, seamlessly, into a dark, shadowed blend of navy and violet.
Curving around the hips and trailing downwards in a satiny fall of
dwindling chroma, the garment ends at the feet in a melting wash of
blue, the cerulean pure and deep as the last hint of day; streaks of
golden thread sketch a faint hint of lingering clouds, while silver-shot
cord wraps around the fluttering folds to give the garment a weighted
hem, ensuring a graceful skirt. A scattering of diamond chips completes
the gown, winking in ambient light to suggest the barest shimmer of
dawning starlight. Elegant, refined, and breath-taking, this gown
emulates the splendour of eventide in a dazzling meld of priceless
materials and exquisite craftmanship.

Look:
Viewed as a whole, this dish tells a simple but clear story. It is divided into three sections. Two outer half-circles around a centrepiece, separated by thick white cream. The outer rim depicts two tall beautiful women, each one beautiful in her own regard as she stands tall against a monochrome background. The woman on the left is painted with peach-cream skin. Sweet honey flows down from her head as if it was brown-blonde hair, with candied rose petals strewn over it in image of the flowers that adorn the real Raziela. Along her face, small tears of pearls dissolved in vinegar have been dug into the peach cream skin. Her hands are folded before her chest, as if holding something close to her heart. Her whole body stands out against strawberry frosting coloured a soft pink. The woman on the right is depicted with pure, white cream for skin. A layer of deep purple grape jelly cut into the shape of Nifilhema lies underneath the cream, and gives the impression of clothing and hair. On her arms and legs are deep rends cut into the jelly where the cream has been scraped away and replaced with deep crimson wine reminiscent of blood. Her arms are spread wide, as if welcoming something. Her figure poses against a deep red background of raspberry jam. In the centre of the cake, on a background of lemon cream, is the image of two young girls. Their skin is lightly tanned with kafe-cream, their eyes shine with playful happiness, and their hands are folded together around some secret object that only they know about. The expressions on their faces are far softer, and far more friendly than that of their adult incarnations. The soft features of the centre strike a stark contrast to the sharper colours of the outer rim, adding to the wholeness of the image. The entire scene is painted on a thin, crunchy nut base.
smell:
As your nose sniffs over the platter before you, you are assaulted with the scent of fresh lemon, tangy grape-wine and vinegar. As the first scents dim down, you pick out the more subtle scents of strawberries and raspberries, combined with a slight hint of fresh cream. The various scents of the dish compels you to take another whiff. This second time, the scents mix together in a softer harmony. While the stronger scents are still noticeable, the softer aroma of cream and berries now flow together with the scent of fruit.
Taste:
When your tongue brushes over the centre of the platter, you feel the soft taste of kafe and sugar melt in your mouth, before the tangy lemon frosting sends a chill down your spine. Brushing over Nifilhema, your tongue catches the delicious taste of cream and grape-wine mixed with the overly sweet raspberry jam. As you taste Raziela, your taste buds are almost overwhelmed by the overwhelmingly sweet taste of honey and peach cream, before the acidic taste of vinegar stings your tongue. A final lick straight across the cake leaves you with several tastes burning in your mouth, each one fighting to overpower the last, before the cacophony finally recedes.
Eat:
You start out nibbling at the outer edge of the cake, taking in nuts, jelly, frosting and cream in a wonderful combination of tastes and textures. Hungry for more, you dig into the rest of the cake, greedily crunching down golden honey-hair and white cream-skin. Finally only the centrepiece is left. You run a finger through the thick cream surrounding it and lick the finger clean, before you slowly eat the last bites of the cake. Finally, only a few crumbs are left of this delicacy.

Here's my gourmet design. It contains funny stuff like pearls and honeycombs, but I don't remember the exact ingredients right now. I'll get someone to look it up later.

I think food almost has an advantage. I remember Arin getting 5th place last year. You can add so much detail into the food that it's like an OP entry. Heh heh

Where are the ones that won?
Unknown2009-02-23 17:37:11
Lendren's mandolin actually made me consider bard. Sweet design.
Nariah2009-02-23 19:23:51
Nothing fancy here, and one a bit weird too. I didn't have inspiration for the seal whatsoever, jaded from last year, and all of this was barely finished for the deadline. I like them though!

a vibrant silken shawl depicting a mysterious assembly
Unfolding upon the silken shawl spread on the ground here is a depiction of a mysterious assembly of dracnari and lucidians.
A copious amount of velvety silk has been sewn together into this exquisite shawl, its length sufficient to swathe the body warmly. The fabric has been dyed predominantly in rich shades of vivid viridian, stygian black, fiery red, and sombre violet - each occupying one area stretched vertically. Within their respective hues, the figures of the four Old Ones have been rendered amidst palls of mist and sizzling smoke. On the far left stands the Jade Judge, his stiff countenance gazing away in grim determination and his lucidian body gleaming with polished motes of jade sewn into the silk. Next to him stands the Onyx Witch, her smouldering eyes affixed precisely on the onlooker and the form surrounded by a storm of silvery dust crackling with wrathful energy. Motes of coruscating garnet have been inlaid into the armour of the Garnet Knight to her right, his vivid dracnari skin glistening with brocade threads. Far onto the right is the Amethyst Enchantress bedecked in extravagant jewellery and gossamer veils shrouding her lucidian frame. The enigmatic form of Lady Tzaraziko hovers behind them ominously, unrecognisable but for the skeletal hand and a darkly sparkling onyx clasped within it.

a lambent vermeil viola inlaid with clockwork
Suffusing the area with a faint pale glow, a vermeil viola inlaid with delicate clockwork has been discarded here.
Lambent vermeil has been used to craft this lightweight viola, pitch-black obsidian applied sparsely throughout its elements to create an august contrast. Sculpted into graceful lines, the belly of the viola has been inlaid in several places with small pieces of delicate clockwork machinery, notably at the bottom left and the upper right. Artificially tarnished to appear as if they have been subject to the ravages of time, the golden cogs and gears interlink and will turn and spin with but a slightest push. The areas beneath the clockwork elements have been heavily patinated to create an illusion of an open framework with filigree ornamentations blossoming around them graven in curving black lines. Further coalescing the royal hues, the obsidian fingerboard has been strung with aurulent strings and the chinrest cushioned with glistening black silk. Accentuating the whole, the scroll expands into the likeness of a shuttered gas lamp supported by a mischievous gargoyle with a powerstone set within the glass lantern suffusing the ambient area with a pale glow.

a perfumed journal of aerial vistas
Perfuming the air with an invigorating fragrance, a delicate silk-wrapped journal depicting aerial vistas has been cast aside here.
Lustrous, velvety silk of a niveous hue has been snugly wrapped around supple leather to create the flexible, yet protective covers of this delicate journal. The fabric on the front has been expertly painted to depict a breathtaking vista of aerial gardens against a halcyon sky, the dyes not diminishing the smoothness of the silk the least bit. The three-tiered clouds rise majestically across the firmament, their crispness clearest at the uppermost levels where neither nebulous rain nor speckled on in golden paint dew obscures sight. Glimpses of wooden pathways and colourful blossoms emerge from amongst eddies of silvery dusted mist on each level, the paints vivid and the lines sharp to denote these. A slender female trill gardener holding close a large hat stands in the foreground of the bottom right corner, the downy, dove grey feathers of her wings stirred by the wind and her daydreaming face turned upwards to the left. The stitching of the ivory leather spine of the journal has been concealed with a satin ribbon, a gleaming golden embroidery declaiming the author and title on the side in flowing calligraphy. Within, the pages are of creamy-hued vellum ornamented with translucent illustrations of various exotic flowers, diaphanous butterflies and aerial birds. A wide ribbon of pearly satin wraps around the journal securely on a fragile crystal bottle which suffuses the air with an invigorating floral fragrance.

Looking at the designs we had to judge, it was really tough. There were some amazing designs. There really were.

I decided that since my mandolin design didn't place, instead of selling it, I'll reserve it for myself. I'm getting my mandolin customized to look like it, and it'll be the only one. (At least until someone makes an almost-but-not-quite identical design and starts selling it...)

Don't think it's your fault. I'm sure there were lots of opinions flying, and even without that not everyone is going to like what someone else picked. It's all good. We want to rant about it, and we shall still.

I feel for you! This is one amazing batch of entries. I definitely wouldn't have been able to pick just five.

I also utilized skyblooms/welkin in my vanity table design. I won't post it though, it obviously didn't win.
Although this is probably what I should have submitted. Originally designed for Vionne, but she had already gotten herself a throne when I finished this.

an eldritch throne of crystal blossoms
Blossoming with crystal plantlife, a magnificent throne emits a faint glow here.
Dimly reflecting the light in eldritch patterns, a single enormous, milky pale
crystal composes this sumptuous throne. Carved to the finest detail, the floral
theme of this masterpiece is truly a statement of feminine elegance. Set on a
low, opaque dais daintily inlaid with iridescent nacre and subtle silver accents,
the back of this throne arches between two argent crystal spires, meticulously
carved into an elaborate lacework of wispy welkin leaves of pale sky-blue colour.
Delicate skyblooms blossom on the twin spires, their snow-white petals glistening
with crystal dew as their stems coil around the spires, embracing the throne in a
myriad of intertwining vines that seem to shift and sway as they enchantingly
reflect the light. Set on the very apex of the arched back is a magnificent rendition
of a graceful, sapphire-eyed aerial that soars high above the seat. Lissome
despite its considerable size, this painstakingly detailed crystal avian has
extended its wings to gently frame the occupant of this throne. Embellished with
lustrous silver filigree, a soft cushion of the finest sky-blue velvet rests on
the smooth seat, complementing two gracefully curving armrests to a delightful
contrast. A faint glow further enlivens the ornamental carvings and encloses
the entirety of this throne as it filters through the crystal plantlife.

You carefully study a tailoring pattern.
Item: Robes Type: Splendor Org: Nrotri
Commodities: silk 75 gold 10 iron 10 redtint 5 leather 10
Layer: NORMAL Bodyparts: chest, gut, arms, legs, waist
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: ROBES
Appearance:
flesh-binding robes of blood red silk
Dropped:
Flesh-binding robes of blood red silk lie upon the ground here.
Examined:
These robes have been cut to mimic a gown, with a fitted bodice and
flowing skirt. Hardened leather forms the bodice, wrapped around thin
iron boning to confine and shape the wearer's curves into an
overdramatised hourglass. Over this shell a triple layer of fine silk,
the colour of freshly drawn blood, has been laid in ruches. The bodice
comes together over the middle of the wearer's torso, linking together
via over fifty small golden hooks and eyes. Lining the top of the square
neckline are tiny gold hooks which drive through the wearer's flesh,
binding the robes to them. At the very edges of the bodice, sleeves have
been attached to protect the wearer's arms. The sleeves have been cut to
hug the wearer's arms tightly, ending mid-palm. The skirt of these robes
opens from hips down to the floor, but has been given extra fabric in
the front to allow the wearer discretion when walking. If kneeling, the
wearer is able to spread the skirt out into a massive circle which
reaches well beyond their fingertips on all sides and mimics a puddle of
blood. Lining the inside of the skirt is a layer of black silk, hundreds
of tiny amaranths sewn into the fabric with pearlescent white thread.
