Back to The Real World.

Although I figured present-day based war games probably aren't exactly the first choice of video games amongst Lusternia's players, I just thought I'd ask around in here anyway, for one never knows: who else here is excited about the just released Tom Clancy's HAWX? fly.gif (It's for the PC, 360 and PS3 in case anyone wants to know that.)

Myself, I'm planning on picking it up ASAP. The reason? From what I gathered in the demo, HAWX isn't about realism at all - in fact, I'd say it jettisons realism like so much chaff. It recognizes that realism doesn't have to be the first and foremost thing to strive for in a video game...well, okay, it is if you like Microsoft Flight Simulator, and if you like that sort of thing, well, I won't be one to argue with you. Point is that HAWX puts fun first, and if less realism is the compromise, then so be it. The game is about exciting air combat, and flying your jet is very easy; playing can pretty much be described as Air Combat for Dummies. You can pull of crazy maneuvers at Mach 3, you can fire multiple missiles at once, and it's basically an action movie in the sky. At least that's what I gathered from the demo. Hopefully the full game is even better.

Now, about Tom Clancy games in general...I have this weird sort of dichotomy with them. I've never read any of Tom Clancy's books, but the games I've come to enjoy a lot. And in real life, I am anti-war and pretty much a pacifist, plus, my political views lean pretty left of the dial. But yet, in spite of that, I like playing the Tom Clancy games. I know that sounds weird, but here's how I see it - just because I play Tom Clancy games doesn't mean I endorse their political content (heck, I'd say Tom Clancy games are pretty apolitical, which is both good and bad). I also recognize that making war a game is a very, very ancient concept - war as a game has been around since the days of chess and go. So I don't think I'm being a hypocrite by being a Tom Clancy war game player who's against the real thing.

What do you guys think? Post your thoughts here!

Tom Clancy and Matt Mihaly are both very alike

They can make and create anything, even complete crap if they wanted, and would still make thousands of dollars off it. Bastards. sad.gif

I remember reading something that a lot of the games with his name on them don't actually involve him at all. The company that owns his name or what not can just slap it on whatever they please because of some deal they have with him. I don't know if this is true or not.

On another note, I was totally stoked over HAWX and Endwar. Still am.
