I don't know what Preacher is.. but HBO and Showtime don't really shy away from much.

Yeah. Rome had graphic incest and pederastry. I also don't know Preacher, but I'm going to guess that content was not a reason for cancelling a series.
Shiri2009-03-08 04:04:35
You could probably make a case that Preacher is offensive just for the sake of it though (which isn't to say it doesn't have merit regardless.)

EDIT: Well, I guess they let Southpark get away with it, I dunno.
Unknown2009-03-08 04:05:07
doh.gif no, Shiri's right guys. I know Preacher and HBO, and it would of been too outrageous. It also would of been hilarious though.

Also I just checked wikipedia to make sure I didn't just mishear fanboy rage or something and yeah, cancelled because of its content.

What was the plot change?

No squid-thing? :'(

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. I think framing Dr. Manhattan fit the tone and themes of the story much better than the original ending.

Yeah, that's it. But I almost liked the movie part better just because that made it...more realistic I guess.

EDIT: And what Shamarah said, hit the nail on the head.

I liked it. Didn't read the novel though. I loved how ironic it was that Rorschach turned out the most human of them all. He was my favourite character.
Unknown2009-03-09 14:27:16
Rorschach was awesome, I agree.

My wife was rather... distracted... through much of the movie. Let's just say that Nixon wasn't the only Tricky Dick in the film.

I haven't seen it yet, but my sister called me after she saw it (with her fiance and her fiance's best friend) and told me that the big blue guy's costume left very little to the imagination and that she was glad she went with the Neals instead of with our Dad like she'd thought about doing cause it would have been really awkward. laugh.gif
Yrael2009-03-09 14:35:03
Actually, that was awkward. I couldn't stop myself glancing around everytime he appeared on screen like that, and neither could anyone else - I think I met the eyes of this mortified mother and her (very young) teenaged daughter every single time, both of us with the "wtf, dude" expression. Her daughter seemed to be enjoying the movie, though.

Don't you all just ignore it? I know that it was CG-generated, so I just ignored it.

I told my sister I was planning on seeing the movie at the IMAX next weekend and she thought that it was the funniest thing ever. I'm probably going to giggle through half the movie, whenever I see the blue guy, just cause all the thing she said will pop into my head. laugh.gif

this critic obssessed over it (one of the reviews posted on rottentomatoes.com): http://www.knightatthemovies.com/Knight_at...9_Watchmen.html

Did you ever go see the Twilight movie? Imagine that audience, sprinkled with the odd obvious comic book reader pair, middle aged men there for the hell of it, (I took on the role of "bored 20 something guy") and that's what made it so weird.

Heh. You watch the movies or watch the people watching the movies? Also, isn't it R-rated in America? I know its M-18 here, which means that I don't have to worry about some little kid watching it (unlike the Simpsons).

It's crazy easy for kids to get into R rated movies. And I don't just mean teenagers sneaking in. I was mildly horrified by the folks bringing their small children in to see the Friday the 13th remake. ohmy.gif I'm sorry, but bringing a six year old into that movie is just bad parenting.

Though, my sister told me she really did think that The Watchmen shoulda been NC-17 (which means no one under 17, even with a parent) cause of 'Big Blue' and this really explicit sex scene.

She coulda been exaggerating though. She does that sometimes. laugh.gif She told me Hostle was so gorey she got nauseous and it totally wasn't that gorey.
Unknown2009-03-09 15:38:54
You mean R-rated isn't the highest rating? I know R21 is the highest rating over here.

I can pay attention to more than one thing at a time. And I don't know the rating, I'm afraid, but they didn't have prob lems buying their tickets.

Edit: I promise you noola, the most explicit thing in the entire movie was the spectre sucking on "big" blue's thumb andsaying it was like licking a battery. The fatty and the spectre screwing in the flying suppository was, as one critic put it "trouser withering".
Unknown2009-03-09 15:42:13
Haha, true. I guess it's cause I was sitting between my friends, and in the third front row with no one in front.
Fania2009-03-09 15:44:25
I can't wait to see Watchmen, it looks freaking sweet.
Unknown2009-03-09 15:45:49
My only gripes about the movie:

A bladder-busting length of 2.5 hours.
And Nite Owl and Silk Spectre are B.O.R.I.N.G.
