So, seeing as the D&D game I'm running seems to be going fairly well, I was wondering if people would be interested in even shorter little "Dungeon Delves"?
Basically it would be something like a five-man party, 3-room dungeons with a fight in each, and it would be a fight to the death.
No RP outside of what you want to do in the fight. You make characters of whatever level required, and jump in. And rather than the usual "keep the PCs alive for the sake of the story" we can have some fun with me actually trying to kill you.
If enough people are interested, I'd definitely be willing to run some after my current little adventure is over with.

I dunno, I kinda liked the roleplay you guys had going on with your game. Even though they are short you might want to consider adding it for a little bit of flavour. If someone dies wouldn't it make things more interesting rather than less with RP? Anyways I don't know much about D&D so I'd probably be out of place playing.

If I had an idea what to do, I would be interested.

I'm down.

I'd be interested in another full on D&D session if you're willing to run another one after the one you're doing now. That is, if I have time if you decide to run another one.

The idea of taking out the RP is to turn it from a super-lengthy endeavour to something more like the mafia games.
A full game can take months and months to play (the one I'm doing right now shouldn't take that long, but it'll still be a couple more weeks, and if I wasn't imposing an artifical limit, there are a few other adventures available in just the tiny setting I'm currently using)
Whereas, one of these Dungeon Delves could be run through in just a couple weeks and would allow for more people to get the opportunity to play around with the 4e tactical combat system.
Which is why I'm asking--if there are only a few people, then I guess I can just run another adventure. But if lots of people are interested, then the more fast-paced form would be better, I think.

I would be down for it, as long as I could fit it in.
Daganev2009-03-09 19:47:36
I like the idea of just small skirmishes.
Fania2009-03-09 19:52:39
How about a link or two for those of us who don't play? I learn fast, but I need to have something I can refer back to.

It'd be fun to be able to run through a couple of skirmishes to test out character classes. I'd like to see how a Beastmaster Ranger fares, for example.

So after seeing the second fight, I'm jonesing for this. Looks great!

Once the other group finishes the current adventure, I'll start up a short delve and see how the format I want to try works.

I would suggest doing it before the adventure ends, but instead do it after maybe 2 more battles or when you feel comfortable about it.

The adventure only has 2 more battles, actually. The stuff about the Lady of Shadows and the Zelbross Bandits aren't part of the Barrow of the Ogre King adventure.

LAME! I was getting all excited about joining the lady's of shadow's thugs

Well, like I said, this first one was a short adventure to see if it would even work. But I did plant the seeds for those other situations, in case everyone wanted to come back to it and continue.

I'd both be interested in starting a new character, or continuing Tsuujin, if you're going to extend our current campaign. Either one works for me, I just love having the ability to play again.

Well, really, it could be a mix. You could roll a new character but simply take Tsuujin's place, if the others go after the Lady of Shadows or the Zelbross Bandits. Have them return, Tsuujin leave, and your new character somehow gets dragged into the mission.

I'd like to play too if there is space

OOkay, so, I think I'm going to be doing something a little different.
Instead of a group of 5 battling their way through a dungeon, with the person who dies getting replaced, I think I'm going to run a survival horror game. I'll be able to accomodate as many people as want to play, but the catch is that I'm not going to pull as many punches, so there is a very good chance that you will be eaten by zombies. And, rather than a straight hack-and-slash, there are going to be a lot of times where you're just going to have to run. Think of this as D&D: Resident Evil Edition.
So, if you're interested, throw up a post here. And then we can start to work out the logistics of whose going to play what and how we'll get the rules to people.
Once I get enough interest, I'll go ahead and make a new thread for it. But I want to see first, before I do that.
