I have no lack of ability to realize what an Illithoid looks like. I can easily go check on what the an Illithoid is hardcoded into looking like.

But I don't. Why? Because if everything was hardcoded to be from the Designer's point of view, no one could marry into other races and aslarans couldn't adopt any other race but their own. 'Estarra' forbid we somehow have two people mixing their genes like they might IRL and get something a bit different.. RP wouldn't exist. Lusternia would suck. I wouldn't be here, but I am fairly certain the majority of you wouldn't be either because it would be just that bad.

Tau may not look as disgusting as the savage illithoid that live underground (maybe because she's obviously a hell of a lot more than they are. More as in smarter and stronger and more acclimated to the surface), but neither did Somaria.

Edit: Just to provide an example to those who apparently don't understand what constructive criticism of an artwork is - I REALLY love how clean the lines of her nekai are. I could never manage to make a weapon look that precisely drawn, even with a computer program.

Technically, as in, it's spelled out, only humans can mix with other races. And for that to happen, or at least from a genetic point of view for Tau to look like she does, not enough time has passed since Illithoids came out. And I don't see how you can claim that RP wouldn't exist, seeing as a family is seen as adoption. You can RP it differently but that's how it's supposed to be.
Not to mention I don't understand your point of not being here because of what, not being able to look like what you want? Demigods had that for a while, before that was changed, so obviously, you aren't supposed to be able to look like you want.

Family can be seen as adoption, sure, whatever. My rp, and my families rp is a bit more realistic. Kids are born, from whatever mix of parents, and sent into the portal. Daedalion plays a human. Somaria was an Illithoid. Tada, you get Tau.

All art gets criticism, both negative and positive. If Somaria cant' take the negative kind, she shouldn't be posting her work for others to see, so I have no sympathy for your complaint that we should all be on our knees for anyone who posts art here.

The picture in itself is fine. I personally dislike the style of artwork, favoring work that has more focus on three dimensional lighting. To me, this style of art seems a bit bland and flat. However, most people don't want to spend hour upon hour working on a shoulder to make sure that it's realistic enough. I respect that it is, in fact, a style of art; and it's not a bad example.

However, there are guidelines for races within Lusternia. If you are kephera, you can't walk around saying that you look like a normal human. It rapes the game of the fantasy depth it's supposed to have. If it is that important for you to have an attractive character, pick human or elfen or some other "pretty" race and roleplay with it. Isuka, for example, was Viscanti for a long time and walked around looking like he just got up off the coroners table.

This picture depicts a character who's description does not fit her race very well, and the picture itself reflects that. You have to expect that people are going to take issue with it, and understand that the argument of "I'm a mixed race" doesn't really fly, because the game mechanics for racial advantages/disadvantages does not allow for mixing. Otherwise you'd have to be fair and give up the potency of your racial resistances, for example, as the bloodline dwindles.

Edit: for clarification(because I forgot to expand on it), I say that the fantasy depth is raped because you'd then have to figure that there wouldn't be any pure-blooded characters anymore. How many hundreds of generations have there been? Everybody would be a mutt, and the races would all have blended together to form a generic race, or at least races with little distinction.

@Isuka - I've offered negative criticism about Somaria's artwork as well. My problem was that there have been a couple of comments where people were more focused on attacking Tau's RP than actually -critiquing the artwork-, whether negatively or positively.

I can take negative critique. I enjoy any sort of it. What I dislike is when people say my art is 'wrong'.

No art is 'wrong'. Art is art. It's perspective.

It's a lot less realistic than the adoption thing. You get sent into the portal, you don't know how you come out. You could be a completely other race, gender, have a complete different affliliation, etc. No way to claim RP high ground there, sorry. If anything, it's less "realistic" seen from an IG perspective.
