yes, I think they are required.

Actually, I think that SAW was asking for you to post the text-section from the character builder (under Summery) here.

.....I'm making a new character. That last minotaur is like my exact clone.
Saran2009-03-20 03:47:54
one thing to keep in mind is that every class has atleast two variations, while some of these are only minor there are cases such as with druids where a Guardian druid is expected to evolve into a controller/leader while a Predator druid would have more of a controller/Striker trend.

I'm gonna have so much fun ordering you guys around. happy.gif
Saran2009-03-20 04:20:27
Also if someone desperately wants their own little official dnd character builder thing, send me a pm and I'll make you one.

(it's kinda cool, I have a pdf or something with colour coded cards I can cut out for each of my characters abilities as well as the sheets)

I think a lot of people were having trouble with the website that hosted the sheets, and that's why he changed it.

Basically there are only two types of characters. Those that are actually good and can survive. And those that seem like they are a good idea, but in actuality they end up dying before they are of any use.
A lot of times it just depends on the player. I'd put bards in the latter category in general. I've never had good experiences with them in any fantasy game.

Heh, if I wield a shield in my main hand, does it count as a melee weapon for skills?

Edit: Oh, and for my power Commander Strike, I don't even have to have line of sight, and can be at any range to order attacks?

Editedit: Ohoh, and does Commander Strike count as a melee attack for Double Team? If so, how would it work?
Celina2009-03-20 05:36:48
Changed my character. This one might totally suck, but it was more fun to make then the war-thing.

Certain shields only. I believe there's a spiked shield or something that counts as a melee weapon. But otherwise, no.

And no, Double Team requires you to make a melee attack. Commander's strike is your ally making the melee attack.
Fania2009-03-20 15:33:25
Okay I have a Spellbook, Cloth Armor (Basic Clothing), Arcane Implement, Staff, and Adventurer's Kit.

I'm just wondering if I need a regular staff or can buy a regular staff in place of my arcane implement staff. Also wondering if the arcane implement staff is the staff I need to use my defense staff skill.

Also do I start out with all my spells charged, or do I have to charge them all before getting into battle?

Edit: I think I'm moving to Rituals. Some of those skills are too good to pass up and with Dag having Alchemy it will balance us out better.

It's been a while, but wouldn't he need a Weapon Proficiency in Exotic Weapons to be able to use a spiked shield as a melee weapon?

I honestly don't know. I only vaguely remember that such a shield exists. I think it specifies what it requires though.
Unknown2009-03-20 16:03:23
Ahh, nope. Spiked Shield counts as Light Blade in 4e.

QUOTE
Spiked shield

Superior one-handed melee weapon
Cost: 10 gp
Damage: 1d6
Proficient: +2
Range: -
Weight: 7 lb.

This light shield is constructed with a sharpened spike at its center. A spiked shield can be enchanted as a magic shield or a magic weapon, but not both. A spiked shield enchanted as a magic weapon does not occupy a character’s magic item arms slot. Although a character cannot use two shields at the same time, a character wielding a spiked shield enchanted as a weapon can employ arms slot items such as bracers.

Properties:
Off-Hand (An off-hand weapon is light enough that you can hold it and attack effectively with it while holding a weapon in your main hand. You can’t attack with both weapons in the same turn, unless you have a power that lets you do so, but you can attack with either weapon.).

Group:
Light blade (Light blades reward accuracy as much as force. Pinpoint attacks, lunges, and agile defenses are the strong points of these weapons.).

I can change to a Swordmage (the character is already created and all) if you'd rather play your warforged. I don't mind.

Stop trying to avoid conflict! You people are no fun. Ah well, at least I can threaten Casilu for all it's worth. Casilu, you're pants!

Actually, the Spiked Shield is a Superior Weapon, so it would require a Weapon Proficiency feat to use it.

I thought you can use it, you just get a -2 or something. (which is fine, because she doesn't want to actually hit with it)
