No, he did not actually say that, but...he could have!

Your life is marked by quite a bit of apathy: You don’t seem to care much about the direction of your own life, much less society in general. I would find a quote or two to better describe the virtues and thoughts behind apathy, but ironically those who would espouse the concept of apathy are too apathetic to write about it. “Eh, who cares?” --Myself, just now...

You Scored as Utilitarianism
Your life is guided by the principles of Utilitarianism: You seek the greatest good for the greatest number.

“The said truth is that it is the greatest happiness of the greatest number that is the measure of right and wrong.” --Jeremy Bentham

“Whenever the general disposition of the people is such, that each individual regards those only of his interests which are selfish, and does not dwell on, or concern himself for, his share of the general interest, in such a state of things, good government is impossible.” --John Stuart Mill

You Scored as Justice (Fairness)

Your life is guided by the concept of Fair Justice: Everyone, yourself included, should be rewarded and punished according to the help or harm they cause.

"He who does not punish evil commands it to be done."
--Leonardo da Vinci

“Though force can protect in emergency, only justice, fairness, consideration and cooperation can finally lead men to the dawn of eternal peace.”
--Dwight D. Eisenhower

This was my result.

It annoys me that it didn't have a proper response for describing someone like me who is pretty evenly split.

It just labeled me as utilitarian, but as you can see from the results that isn't very accurate.

Someone explain that one to me, please. Not having read any Kant yet, I don't fully understand his position, and thus I can't quite work out why I scored 35% on him.

Apart from that, I like my other scores and it fits with my reading list as Sartre, Heidegger, Nietzsche, Camus, Dostoyevsky and Kafka are all authors I like smile.gif

Kant believed in universal principles. He believed that laws exist that if everyone followed them, all would work out well. Meaning, he would be against the idea that it's ok for a poor man to steal, but not ok for a rich man to steal. If stealing is something that can be considered bad, then it is always bad.

Well, the god-questions on that test mainly focused around divine relevation. Like for instance, I consider myself a deist but the quiz had no way of reaching that conclusion.

Do you believe that morals and ethics can be derived from the existence of the divine? If not then it doesn't really matter if you believe that the divine exists from the perspective of this quiz.

One of my issues with the quiz was the phrase "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" I wasn't sure if I was meant to read that litterally and thus represent barbarism, or if it was meant to be read as intended, to represent fair and equal justice via monetary compensation.

The problem with philosophy is there is so much of it out there and a lot of it is quite heavy going. I only managed Heidegger because I found a book with pictures biggrin.gif

I'm waiting for "Asterix explores Dasein" tongue.gif It would involve lots of walks in the forest with Obelix, Wild Boar, Romans and chats about the meaning of Being and Time.

You Scored as Hedonism 95%

Your life is guided by the principles of Hedonism: You believe that pleasure is a great, or the greatest, good; and you try to enjoy life’s pleasures as much as you can.

“Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die!”
