I think The Dark Knight and those trailers just made The Joker my favorite villain. Ever. The game should come out in a few weeks.

Me want!

I also look forward to throwing people down a ledge with my grapple (or grapnel, whatever it's called...)

First thing I thought when watching that: isn't Batman supposed not to kill people? Isn't that like half the point of his character?
Second thing: that actually looks like an interesting stealth game variant, I guess it's just a question of whether the mechanics get played out too quickly since the storytelling is hardly going to be on the same level as MGS. Maybe more like Tenchu.

The joker is the most interesting villain in Batman, simply because he's the only one without some convoluted reason for being evil. He's just evil. It's fun. He enjoys it. The Dark Knight movie did a great job of portraying that.

The game is supposed to be a mix of combat and detective work. They claim they're trying to make combat brutal, but short, and you won't be doing a whole lot of it in the game. It should be good.

Another video to give a clearer idea of the gameplay...

No clue how he was portrayed in the movie, but in the comic books, it depends entirely on the author if he kills or not.

I thought it was more like a rule that's not quite universal because a couple of the authors did it differently, but otherwise would be. That's just the impression I get from things like tvtropes though, I barely read any comics beyond Watchmen/Fables/Sandman.

Mainstream batman never kills. If it's something like Dark Knight Returns which sort of takes place in another world then sometimes.
Unknown2009-03-28 17:35:28
It's not evident though that he's killing them. I lot of the times it looks like a variant on a sleeper hold that he uses to finish them.
Isuka2009-03-28 17:38:05
In the modern comic books, batman doesn't kill, but he also doesn't hesitate to break bones and cripple people. I see him doing both, but I don't really see him killing anyone.
Everiine2009-03-28 17:40:12
I always got the impression in the TV shows and movies that he didn't prefer to kill, but did if there was no other alternative.
Ashteru2009-03-28 17:40:31
Well, yeah, probably Mainstream Batman doesn't kill. But for example in the comic by Alan Moore, Arkham Asylum, he stabs Croc and throws him out of a window. No dice if he survives.
Jack2009-03-29 00:46:39
I think he gets leeway with crazy mutants, since that probably would barely slow down Croc anyway.

All I recall about Batman was that he doesn't use guns. I didn't recall anything about not killing.

No, batman is generally against killing. His whole schtick is that you have to bring people to justice--he's not an executioner, or why not use a gun?

There's one part of the comics where Lucius develops this anti-bullet field thing that deflects bullets, but Batman gives it back because it's too effective and baddies were nearly getting killed by their own shots.

On a sidenote, does anyone know why the character of Lucius Fox wasn't in the 90s Batman movies (at least I don't recall seeing him)? He seems like he has a pretty important role in the storyline...

I think they were going for a different feel, at least in Batman and Batman Returns. (I try to ignore the others, personally). But Batman never really needed to be upgraded, and I'm guessing they didn't think people would actually care where he got all those wonderful toys. tongue.gif
