If you are not making money as a cook you are doing it wrong.
Cooking is not for profit. A profit can be turned, but it is small. Cooking is more for facilitating interaction. As a cook, you don't need a reason to get people to gather. You just announce that there's booze and a herofete.
Now we have alchemists with booze and herofete-light, and alchemy is crazy profit.

Are you kidding me? With a shop and good advertising, a cook can make a 500% return on his investment, easy.

And an alchemist with a 40% profit margin is making literally 30 times more. I say this from experience.

BREWMEISTER - AMBERMALT
Used in a few amber and nut brown ales, this dwarven malt has a biscuit like flavor (thus, sometimes referred as Dwarven Biscuit). Highly prized by dwarves, it is roasted in high temperature alembics. Drinking beers made with amber malt briefly deadens pain, thus allowing more damage to be absorbed. Deadening pain is a short term effect and its strength is dependent upon your alcohol level (the drunker you are, the more damage is absorbed).
Ingredients: grain 8 sugar 3

I foresee alchemists needing to relearn all of alchemy again.
Switch magicink and allheale around while you're at it - allheale at least vaguely fits brewmeister better.

I don't see it increasing the profitability of sigils, really.
The market's just crashed, at least where the Communes are concerned. When anyone with 180 lessons or less can completely wipe out a sigil supply... why bother buying them for EthGlom/EthSeren? Guildhalls, sure, but we were already buying them for that, and that was only about half our market.
When you make things too temporary, there's very little use.
(I mean, Celestia and Nil are full of flamed monoliths, right? Right? )

Why would we bother with flamed monoliths on Celestia's exterior when for a mere 100k essence, I can drop shrine distortion, which cannot be disenchanted? That being said, there are about 15 flamed monoliths on Celestia in "special locations" and about 15 flamed eyes.

It might have something to do with shrine distortion only working for a very limited number of people.
1) In an Order.
2) In the correct order for the Shrine on the plane.
3) Able to get to the shrine if it's not at the Nexus.
4) The fact that it's every bit as easy to spend a little bit of gold on piles of bottles and drop that shrine's sanctified area down to size in almost no time.
And:
Not having direct teleportation from Nil to Celestia, along with the use of spores, etc.
The sigil market's definitely lost a fair chunk of its base. There's no real way around that.

Here is my jingle if anyone wants to read it. I wasn't expecting to win at all so this was a nice surprise.
The reward was getting the new Tinkering skill to trans for free. So basically i had to switch trade skills but i got to keep the lessons from forgetting my old one which was pretty sweet.

away we go and hoe-de-doe in the Gnomish Family Biz
Gnomish Engeneering has no peer
and yet many find it cause for fear
True, our blueprints are on paper scraps
and our concentration we hope won't lapse
but our good intentions aren't slacking
even if flushed out ideas are lacking
at least our products will not kill you,
well, not that we'll admit to

we'll try our best

I've never had a problem with it. Ever. It's possible like most things to get around it, but then again, it's easy to prevent as well. I also am a fan of stockpiling huge amounts of esteems for special occasions. This tends to be an advantage for Celest. We excel at stockpiling tenfold the esteem Magnagora ever does.

I think you're forgetting or leaving out that sigils last hundreds of months. If sigils are not actively disenchanted, the purchase of them to protect say Ethereal Glomdoring is going to occurs once or twice a real life year. As for whether or not organizations now actively purchase and use them when they can be disnenchanted is up to the organization.
Celest has always placed flamed eye sigils on Celestia. They are always being disenchanted. We in turn are always actively replacing them. What else are we going to do with the ridiculous amount of commodities we have stockpiled? Let them rot? Maybe Glomdoring is cheap, but it's never deterred Celest.

Also, I think tinkering is being underestimated.
All bards want their songs to last longer, keeping them up all the time can be a pain,
Also, the shorter eq time on aurics, granted i haven't tested it yet, could be a great addition since sticking them can be a real challenge against somone who knows that they are doing.
Music boxes are also pretty badass and hit all your enemies in the room. I was rather impressed with the tests i did with them.
A perceive enchant, a roulade enchant, a crash enchant, one to disable music boxes (seriously, they are nasty little buggers), a new aeon defense - not too shabby. Also, rat your way to demi with the perfect fourth enchant, or it would be a great gift for your favorite novice.
And it won't be long until some cheaper versions of watches horns and music boxes are available.

Yes, I'm aware that Mag doesn't do much stockpiling of esteem for some reason. Glom (well, Talan) does, on the other hand. I imagine Seren does as well. A few bottles helps the distortion go down.
Also, I'm not forgetting or leaving out that part-- the part you're overlooking is that city-folk did actually come along and disenchant every so often (either at the request of the forests or for comms or to do some playing of their own). In fact, you did so yourself against Serenwilde back when you were an enchanter, as I recall...
This generally does not happen regularly, which is why the sigils are replaced fairly rapidly. However, in the past when it was regularly occurring (again, I believe you vs. Serenwilde), they just stopped rebuying them. There wasn't much point for them.
And you also said that you're only doing what, 15 of them in "special areas"? Which I would suspect would be inside the pillars with the Supernals. There are no similar areas in EthGlom or EthSeren. It's pretty much all-or-nothing. If you leave a hole, you might as well just leave it all open, whereas blocking off pillars on Celestia can actually serve some extra purpose. Further, 15 is a lot less than 50.

I seem to remember seeing both a song-lengthening etching and song-lengthening enchantment (Tempo) mentioned here, yet the etching doesn't seem to exist in Xiel's googlepages. Just quickly clarify if it exists? (Also, yes, song-lengthening = )

I've always been impressed with how fast bard affs can be dealt. I can deal three during one earache period and still have time to regain eq for an immediate re-blanknote on earwort. This should make it even crazier. :/

Newp, the two etchings available are to increase the healing from roulade and major third, and to lessen the eq time of 3 of the 4 aurics.
You can instantainously eat earwort, sip allheale and cast green to clear them off you so, i don't think this will really be op.
