I don't know how difficult this would be, but I would love to be able to wander around the arena as like, a soul or something, when other people are fighting, so I can see first hand how they fight.

EDIT: Asked Eventru about it. He said it would be incredibly hard if not impossible. sad.gif

It would also be convenient if you were invisible and (so that you cannot distract/interfere) and had the ability to more or less instantaneously teleport to others. An excellent way for beginners like myself to learn the ropes prior to first-hand experience.

* All communication and action other than movement would absolutely have to be disabled for spectators, or else they would turn this into a game of battleship between peeking children.

** This should only be an option through invitation or free-for-alls, team battles, and other public events. No eavesdropping on private matches.

Spectation in the arenas existed in Achaea at one point in the very very distant past. It did not work out well due to some constraints in which would lag the game heavily.

From what I can remember, that was a very different kind of spectator. Rather than being a soul, you saw what one of the competitors saw. First-person rather than third. Presumably, this wouldn't lag the game any more than a couple more people in the FFA would.

Yep, Esano is right. Presumably Eventru thought you meant that, because people bring it up every so often.

That was one of my favorite things about Achaea, while it existed, and it's a shame it's so difficult to implement. Arenawatch -player- would put you in their body, and you'd experience the fight just as they experienced it.

I used to play a game called Evarayn, which had a room with a viewing orb near the arena. When you were sitting in that room, you would see the actions of every player in the arena from a third person perspective. It was very informative.
