The Civilization series is a favorite of mine. While the games take many hours of involvement to get anywhere, I would love to play one with other players, if other players were willing. Post here and we might try to work something out.

I'd be up for a game of Civ 4. I doubt I still have Civ 3 though.

Sadly, I only have the expansion for Civ 4. I bought it a year ago mistaking that it was the full game, and it has been sitting under my desk since.
How is it? If it is any good and not too much for my old graphics card, I might spring for it.

I haven't played it in a long time but it was quite good.

The Call to Power line was my favorite. All of Sid Meyer's iterations have been clunky in comparison. I'm a little disappointed that that didn't take off better. Anyways, Civ IV is pretty good. The religion thing adds an interesting edge, the play is a bit smoother compared to Civ III, but it didn't add anything new strategy-wise. You still only have two options to win: early game zerg or minimalistic bunker setup for a science/wonder race.

Those are multiplayer options, yes?
I usually just sit tight and "roleplay", biding my time until the Industrial Age then use diplomacy to pit super powers against each other, claiming the war-torn city states through cultural greatness, and finally mop up their remnants with nukes.

Yes, multiplayer options. You offer me a deal to go up against my closest rival together, I reject it and offer the rival a deal to remove you from the game.
EDIT: That is a really cool single player strategy, though. Never would have thought of it.

Well, I no longer have Civ 3 but I do have Civ 4 and the expansion that's title is about swords.

CIV IV also has a much more complex unit upgrade system that makes it worth while if you can keep your units alive and active in combat through the ages. Also, the one tiny thing I love in CIV IV is that when you explore a piece of jungle for the first time, little birds fly out of it.
Shamarah2009-04-13 19:20:06
Civ IV also got rid of a lot of the mechanics that sucked in Civ III (like waste cleanup) and replaced them with mechanics that rock (like religion).

But it also slows down horribly in ginormous maps with all the animations... I think. Haven't tested it with new 9800GTX yet.

This basically sums it up. Civ IV is what Civ III should have been the first time. It plays very similarly, just with less BS.

Last I played it, Civ4 also had this big, wicked fantasy mod made for it. A very fun way to play the game, that was.

I only have Civilization Revolution (Xbox 360), but I've played and enjoyed most of the other Civ games at some point or another. FreeCiv is even kinda cool, except when I played it they still hadn't finished the end-game scenarios, so it just kept dragging on and on. Heh.
