I really don't even think a change like this is needed. Karma system is pretty good as is. Don't get blessings if you're not going to use them.

So I should never get blessings, solely because I might have to do some forging (a service to help my guild and city) and have to burn through them? Yeah, that's a great suggestion. "Don't use an entire game system, or don't use something you spent hard cash to trans, because it's inconvenient. Fixing the cause of the problem isn't worthwhile".

Or just eat the karma loss. It's easy enough to get back, particularly if you're only running 1. No need to get greedier than you can handle.

How is it greed to suggest that I should both be able to forge and not have to burn off the couple of blessings I like to maintain?
I just spent 80 hours straight forging, I don't want to spend the next three just getting back to status quo.

Was this a service you did for free? If so, then, well, that was your decision. No one made you not charge for it.
If it was something you charged for, start factoring in wasted karma in your prices and charge more.

you realize that forging is a horribly underpaying trade, right? Look at other posts made by me where I did the math on the amount of gold I -lose- by forging. It's a service skill, not a trade skill, unfortunately.

Yeah, I've heard that. It's weird and I don't understand why. It would seem to me that Forgers (I think of bad checks when I type that ) should be making good profit. I mean, everyone apparently can't do without these super perfect weapons, why don't Forgers charge for them like that then? And if people balk at paying, just say, "Oh well! No fancy weapon for you! I've got some nice average weapons here you can get for the cheap price you're willing to pay instead."

After spending hundreds of hours forging their own weapons, most people don't want to forge them for other people. Also most warriors tend to go forging anyway for the fullplate.

There aren't that many people that need masterwork weapons. Warriors (four guilds) need them, and monks (another four) need kata weapons (which are far, far, far harder to forge perfectly). Plus, a forged weapon lasts about a RL year. Not that many people really need the items. I just happened to hit a long run of needing to do it (forging weapons for myself, changing specs and forging again, helping out some friends, and so forth).
You can't charge much more than 80k for an item. People do -not- understand what a pain forging is and whine if you try to charge much more than that.
Plus, I don't have a mallet, so all my forge times are more than doubled.
