There have been some valid complaints about fearaura and I figured the time will eventually come when envoys decide on a change. But if not, I have some ideas!
* Change fearaura to work like rad.
* Have fearaura cancel out the fearaura of a rival Ascendant.
* Change fearaura to cause (insert affliction here) on a 10 second timer. Someone suggested shyness to me.
My reason is that fearaura is incredibly effective in groups, almost too effective and it gives commune ascendants a distinct advantage against city ascendants. (is this scenario familiar, anyone?) Wolf totem grants 100% resistance to fear- compare to rubeus which two guilds in Celest or Magnagora have access to and only gives 33% (?) resistance. Harmony monks also have a fear resisting ability 'lumuti', which Seren monks have access to.
So I think to balance things a little, fearaura needs a looksee.

Strangely enough, defense-stripping always seems to get fearaura early on... though I haven't done any tests and it may be pure coincidence. Hmm.

Anyway, the shyness thing I could almost go for, so long as it only hits for the person with the aura, and isn't an actual affliction.

@Xenthos- I doubt it's very difficult to turn it back on, unless one could only use fearaura once per game day.
Not sure what you mean, Shaddus. I've always stated how communes have extreme advantages over cities in numerous areas.

That won't really address the problem. Passive fear is still more effective against cities than communes.

Their response to that was that Rubeus protects against more than Wolf does, so it's weaker against plain old fear. (Does it actually do so?)

Rubeus has a chance of protecting against fear with a chance of falling each time and has a 6 second eq to put back up. Conversely, wolf totem is put up once and protects against fear 100% of the time without having to think about it. So while rubeus has more general purpose (less so now with the ninja love potion change), wolf totem is definitely superior when it comes to fear aura.

Totems surpasses rituals IMO - if we're going to generalize. Rubeus protects against more things (again, 33% resistance) and wolf totem gives 100% fear resistance and scent. Ascendants are another thing and fearaura makes having 100% fear resis quite wonderful, don't you agree?

We're not generalizing, we're comparing the resistance of Rubeus to the resistance of Wolf. This was exactly what the Admin stated as their reasoning for why Rubeus is a one-shot against Fearaura.
That said, Wolf is really nice against it, I won't disagree.

Well I'm not sure what you mean by 'one shot' but the drawbacks to rubeus were explained above. I can't say I understand the admin's reasoning on a lot of things.
