The circumstances of how he got in the Serenwilde are a moot point as it was his choice to enter the Serenwilde.
Scaled response-- the circumstance had everything to do with my response, saw the situation differently than others. But like I said, that's already been worked out and dealt with.

I see what you did there.

Hehe, I think we call them "events" .

Because that's just how I read it as I scanned through.

It's amazing how on one hand we have Everiine complaining about getting disfavoured for scaling responses, and then on the other hand we have Vhaas complaining that we allow people to be promoted for doing cultural contributions instead of fighting. Misinformation keeps getting stated as fact, or even premises (I'll let you decide which is which...)
Nariah: relatedly, consider how often willing combatants get jumped in situations where they can fight back against their solo aggressor as compared to unwilling random midbies with the misfortune to get enemied getting ganked by teams or top-tier fighters while bashing in enemy territory. Some conflict is self-perpetuating and makes people want to give up, and some just makes people want to give up. (and then there's some that's neither, of course)

Most of what I said was along the same lines of what you and Nariah are saying- the attitude with which PK is approached. And I was not "complaining that we allow people to be promoted for doing cultural contributions instead of fighting" period, nor really complaining or stating it as a matter of fact at all, but comparing what I have gleaned to another case. Simply postulating that, it may help if orgs cultivated an environment where PK is encouraged by their precepts, and minor violations against their members condoned to some small extent.
For record I'm not arguing points, I'm trying to gauge them... : /

I got a little excited earlier when I heard Inagin was on Spectre Isle causing trouble. But, by the time I set my defenses he was gone and there's been nothing since then.

The best way to address shrine powers and what not is mechanically. I'm sorry, but expecting people to commune on some special wavelength as to determine when it is acceptable or unacceptable to use them is rubbish.
@Nariah: I would also point out that if I ever solo raid Nil, the first thing that happens if you are online is Ripple. Ripple is by far more annoying than shrine powers (at least for me). In the case of Communes, Liveforest >>> Ripple + Shrine Powers because it splits up groups.

I'm a big fan of making area shrine powers costly. I also think that discretionary powers should be cheaper with constructs, but certainly not free. Even it only was 100-200p per use, it'd be nice.

Not so much anymore. I'd agree that liveforest is more obnoxious anyways, but squads don't get split by entangle.

Knew that would come up! Why does it happen? What Everiine said: because I'm Security and if I don't do it I have the entire Mag looking at me like I'm some idiot. Although my new personal policy is to check who's on our side to scale the reply accordingly.
Re: shrine powers. Course, we can't expect people to telepathically agree when they're acceptable and when not. But how come in the past shrine powers were such a rare occurence? Or is it just my faulty memory?

What shrine is on Celestia after a 3 am raid that took the other shrine down and put an enemy one up?
Your answer lies within

You get rippled/fluxed, I imagine, because you demesne the whole area then puzzle back and forth from earth or hide in the mountains. At least, that's why I'd ripple you.

WHO STARTED USING SHRINE POWERS?!
I'll take it a step further and say who started enemying people to orders for Avatar powers?
I reckon that most shrine powers need to be looked at. Invasion, for example, is just insane.

Invasion isn't bad. People use it incorrectly all the time and just waste essence while the corpses become extra things to defile with.

Basically, one person/group does something minor and the reply is to utterly STOMP them and their whole org, if possible, into the ground. Reminds me of an argument I had with Romero like a month ago where he wanted to go raid Supernals as training and because we had the numbers, and I was tearing my hair out (I'd be tearing his hair out instead if I could) already seeing the Necromentate fall as a result (whether we did succeed or not). Because I knew it would be seen as: Ohhh, so Magnagora can handle it huh? They're attacking us huh? DIEEEEEEEE DEMON LORDS OVER AND OVER!!! And I knew that if at that moment we reversed back to having to raise the Necromentate a few times over AGAIN, even I would lose it and just throw my laptop out the window.
I remember this, because I was absolutely pissed that the first time I see any interest in playing an offensive move it's instantly stopped because everyone whined about possible retaliation.
Though, in fairness, much of the reason I don't PK is because I'm afraid of getting jumped every time I move after that. I had a character a while back that walked into the aslaran village (thinking it was the encampment to the north, my bad on that) and killed one aslaran, then got killed about five times afterwards for that, and was afraid to go out for months because of it.
Everiine2009-04-25 22:10:29
My PK/jumping ratio actually has been pretty good. The very few times I've raided, I've usually only suffered one death from it. I just get lucky.
