I like the idea of Omotes though it does seem like they can be abused if they arn't restricted in some way. I say we should implement them as it would make everything a lot more interesting.

We've had emotes like this in Aetolia for a bit now, and they make RP -vastly- more entertaining. Here's a bit from a RP log the other day that uses them in a variety of ways:
The end result is a scene that flows so so so much better, and which allows you alot more scope for including other elements.
QUOTE
With a sigh, Sir Hadoryu Tenshou, Heart of Valor says, "Yes.. that too was mentioned. Moirean, you are not an honorary Paladin."
You have emoted: With a snort, Moirean's donkey prances in a sidling step, tail swishing indignantly. Thumping the mount on the forehead with a tiny balled fist, the Imp purses her lips in a frown. "Yes, I am," she says, her voice blank with confusion.
You have emoted: Moirean awkwardly pulls a rapier out of her belt, flailing it rather unimpressively. "See!" she insists.
The air appears to chill around Hadoryu as his expression becomes dead-serious. "Off the donkey," he says quietly, his voice splitting the air like a razor.
You have emoted: Moirean pouts for a moment, before squaring her shoulders and nodding, her face the picture of solemnity. "Yessir," she mumbles as she slides off the steed.
Chidingly, Sir Hadoryu Tenshou, Heart of Valor says, "You were enemied to the city. Again. For your antics. Despite all it cost to be unenemied last time."
---> Example of oemote em (The donkey skitters sideways again, hooves rattling against the cobblestone pavement. Grunting,) grabs at the reins, offering you an apologetic smile. "They weren't so bad..." she says, brow furrowing. "I don't even know what was so offensive."
---> What it comes out as You have emoted: The donkey skitters sideways again, hooves rattling against the cobblestone pavement. Grunting, Moirean grabs at the reins, offering you an apologetic smile. "They weren't so bad..." she says, brow furrowing. "I don't even know what was so offensive."
Completely innocent and candid, you say, "Who doesn't love fireworks?"
---> Isn't this cool what he does here?! "The only reason you aren't still enemied is that I went against two city leaders, saying I would handle your case myself," Hadoryu continues, unimpressed by the response, "Are you going to continue antagonizing my guild and the city, despite the friendship you claim with me?"
You have emoted: The Imp blinks, jaw dropping as if poleaxed. Stunned, Moirean echoes, "Antagonizing?!"
Without missing a beat, Sir Hadoryu Tenshou, Heart of Valor says, "If you are told to be quiet and still during a knighting, you -will- be!"
You have emoted: Moirean waves her hands before her, nearly losing her grip on the reins in the process. The donkey, sensing the slackening, rears up as if to trot off, before falling back in an ungraceful stumble in response to a sudden jerk from the Imp. "I was making it BETTER," she insists.
You peer at a donkey suspiciously.
You say to a donkey, "Don't make me cook those pies again."
Hadoryu exhales in exasperation and shakes his head.
You have emoted: Staring sullenly at you, Moirean repeats, insistently, "I was making it BETTER."
Exasperated, Sir Hadoryu Tenshou, Heart of Valor says, "A Knighting is a solemn moment for the Aspirant. You should know this much, you've been in the guild."
You have emoted: The donkey merely snorts once in a dismissive whicker, before lowering his head to tug at a tuft of grass sprouting up through the cobbles. Moirean stares at the beast distrustfully, absently replying, "Is it? My mentor was Reuel and my sponsor Gillbert..."
You have emoted: Moirean leans in closer to you, pitching her voice low. "I think you're making the poor thing uneasy, Sir," she says, quite seriously. "He heard a rumour that Knights only ride noble horses."

Could make it so that omotes and poses require full health, mana and ego or something.
Jonas2009-05-14 14:44:10
Having read this through, I declare it worthy of my support.
This, and Aetolia.

BUMP!
Come now, surely not that hard to code in and we'd love you admins forever.

I missed this thread the first time it was going.
This is a really good idea.

Emote code is, as I understand, nightmarish. Custom poses we probably won't allow - we did auction off a custom emote once, and the person who bought it didn't even use it! If/when it comes around again on the auction block, you can certainly use it to make a custom pose - just for you!
I would like to see the em (text text) text text bit, myself. Maybe I can convince Estarra with some cookies... >.>

Ah well. I can put the custom pose dream to rest finally anyway.
But if you can convince Estarra on that other, that'd be cool.

Note I said probably, and it's entirely just my conjecture - probably shouldn't have said anything, but I didn't notice anyone else having pointed it out, so I figured I would. Obviously that sort of thing's the Boss Lady's call.
Unknown2009-06-15 17:44:34
I'd be totally cool with no custom poses as long as we can get em (text text) text text because that... oh man, I can't count how many RP situations I've been in where I'd have LOVED to have that, but...
Aerotan2009-06-15 18:38:49
I'll add my support to this, especially since the only real abuse I could see for a prepending system is ISSUEable anyway.
Kalaneya2009-11-14 15:32:35
Sorry for the necro, but is there any word one way or the other on prefatory emotes? I would absolutely love to see this go in. The number of times I've wanted to do this is incredible.

Don't hold your breath.
