Artifact that completely shrouds your honors should exist. If it doesn't already.

Good idea! thumup.gif

Agreed.

I still think the game should color people based on where they live. smile.gif

Just one thought.

In real life, when you look at somebody, say, a blonde, blue eyed male that's 6 feet tall, do you know immediately that he is a citizen of the united states? He could be from Canada or Germany or England! You can't tell where somebody lives just from looking at them. You have to talk to somebody, and take in cultural cues.

Why should it be any different here?

How about, instead of adding new information to the honours lines, upgrading Powersense ability in Discernment so that it would allow you to ascertain people in the same room as you are to see which Nexus they are affiliated with, or something like that?

Obviously you can't see the invisible tattoos on their forehead.

And you can tell that somebody is a secretary in a guild by looking at them?
Or you can tell what organizations (i.e. clans) a person is in by looking at them?

I it makes sense to be able to tell which nexus a person is connected to. Be it a skill or in honours.

edit: Also, you could, if you wanted to , find a person's name and find out which passport they have smile.gif

The difference is people within this game world tend to be allot more diverse then in current societies. Lets look at simple matter of dress: You're going to wear much the same clothes in current society regardless of culture- I don't often see German Tourists walking around in Liederhousen; they tend to wear perfectly normal clothes. In Lusternia, however, I'm going to posit that it would be quite easily to tell apart the bulk of societies. Now I'm going to go by this on the seat of my pants here, so bear with me if you will. And so it is clear, I fully support Information being REMOVED from honours. You exit the portal of Fate and you're already half omniscient....

Let's use a situation as an example. Now try to view this in a simple RP perspective.

John Doe walks into a room where the Aquamancer previously referred to is watching carefully. When examined, from simple style of dress and smell/ look, it would be quite obvious to any casual observer whether or not the said person lives in a city or a forest. Simple observation should at least be able to tell the difference between a commune member and a city dweller. So that halves the playing field. So now we just have to guess which commune he is from.

Now for anyone that actually considers the two forests, you'd realize that they are entirely different places. And if you compared someone who lived in say, the jungle, to someone who lived in a redwood forrest, they are going to be completely different. Different smells, different everything. We play a game with beings that MUST have better senses of smell then average humans. They could quickly ferret out the difference between a Seren and a Glommy. I mean, your average commune member is most likely going to spend a good deal of time within the forest, so they would therefore tend to smell and at least look like it (And while I have never been to either of the two cities, I'm going to guess a Maggie would smell different then a Celestian).

So with senses properly attuned, from an rp perspective that sort of thing should be easily recognizable. I'm sure there is all sorts of cases that could be made to that effect. So, where does that leave us? One should be able to tell which race a being belongs to with simple observation.

Now lets look at that from a mechanic perspective. Obviously people are going to still dislike being revealed in that way, but one or two minor (and I say this because I know nothing of coding) gameplay tweaks would fix that. Ahhh, who am I kidding. Pretty major.

I think that this information should be ferret-outable with a suitable skill in discernment or such (possibly even with a racial bonus for certain races). That way those that wish to know could use simple skills implied by the game environment.

But what about the sneaky ones ho seem to dislike being ferreted out? Well, they could do exactly what ANYONE would do if they didn't wish to be caught-disguise oneself! I think stealth, or other such skill should let users proactively "disguise" themselves with scents. So a user who wished to pretend to be, say, Celest, would simply buy a wardrobe convenient to that city, and the relevant scent. That way when the friendly neighborhood aquamancer "sniffs" said John Doe, he would receive the message "Appears to be from Celest", or whatever the Admins deem appropriate.

That way those users who don't mind, or even actively prefer others to know their alliegence would be able to simply go on with business as usual knowing others may determine where they live as deemed necessary, those that wish to do some SNEAKING?!?!?! (as the ever loveable Andy Serkis referred to it as) could enjoy a mechanic made to assist, and those that simply don't give a damn could go on with-holding their damns in a miserly fashion. It is of note that this mechanic would be GREATLY helped by the pruning of honours. The very idea that you could telepathicly determine what school you went to and how well you did, but not which city you float your boat in is absurd.

Then of course, that opens up whole new barrels of fun, such as guild signed memberships to "prove" who you are, of course forgeable by bookbinders.... The list goes on and on.

Hmmm..... Now that I look back, maybe I should simply open a suggestion thread? And I'm sure the idea could use a few nuts and bolts tightened....

There is already a mechanic for pretending to be someone else, built into stealth. Your idea doesn't differ much from that mechanic.

Those of us who are not trained in stealth should not be able to sneak around with any degree of technical know-how.

But again, I'm talking in regards to finding someones citizenship, not how you hide. Whether or not you can already hide is irrelevant... I'm just saying you should be able to discover their living situation based on how they dressed. If you see a college student with clean clothes, chances are they live with mom. Unless they are some washed out middle aged man PRETENDING to be a college student living with mom.

Didn't they have a laundry room in your dorm? ohmy.gif

Sure, and it cost $2.00 ($1.25 for the wash, $0.75 for the dryer, and they accepted quarters only) per load. If you want to separate your whites/darks/colors, thats 24 quarters you have to lug around with you every weak or two.
