It would be great if experience was boosted again, I know you've done this twice now. But, karma gaining is unnecessary and 100% karma gain would not be equal to the power saved from one construct or 25000 gold sovereigns. Please drop the karma gain and just make it a pure experience reward rather than a karma focused reward. It's really just not up to par to 25000 gold or a free power upkeep construct for one month and we're giving up those things just to test this repeatedly!

We can't disconnect karma from experience received from quests.

Could you jury rig it to drain your karma by a set amount while boosting the experience? So you get the XP, but that amount causes you to get a ridiculously high amount of karma...lets go with 75%, and you immediately get hit with a karma drain for 50%?

1.20% at level 89 doesn't seem that puny. Up it to give about that much without a slew of experience boosts and it will probably be enough. There's nothing that states you haaave to hand all your particles over to your city/commune - that's just become what you're expected to do. Considering I spent the lessons to get focusconstruct, if I really wanted to keep mine I would do so and not worry about it.

But you'd take the gold. At 83, 1.20% is nine cave-fishers. Let's say it's double the xp to go from 89-90 as opposed to 83-84. That's still less than one hive, but that hive won't drop 25k on you, even after feeding the sharks.

True. Could always just nerf the amount of gold given... *runs away*
Chade2009-05-19 04:36:09
No point in nerfing the gold. Getting hold of the damn things is hard enough, would just make it a pointless exercise if you did that.
Would also remove the little gold making potential flying an aethership has.

Is it possible to just code that reward differently rather than quick fixing it? By quick fix I mean changing the reward by some multiplying factor. Recode it so that it gives slight karma and a set experience amount that puts it on par with 25000 gold.
Yiro2009-05-19 04:44:59
Back in the day of aetherspace bashing, gold was easy to make in space.

Eh? If karma and experience were separate, it wouldn't be an issue. Karma is based on how much quest experience you get. Recoding how karma works on such a fundamental level would be too big of a project just for auronispheres (IMO).

I thought aetherspace was pretty good at making gold. It would be easy enough to increase the amount of potential gold being made, though that assumes people are already gnome trading in aspace to the point that they're tapping out the gnomes for gold. (I'm assuming people do make gnome trade ship runs to get the best bargains, etc.)
Yiro2009-05-19 05:56:29
Agreed, on a good day before the revisions to aetherspace, could easily make around 500k and roughly 3k power to donate to the city.
Krellan2009-05-19 06:03:29
I have heard that with the latest changes to funnelling, aetherspace on a "good' level is difficult to impossible. What I mean by this, is that at the demigod or even level 90's and up range, plain bashing with far outpace the gold productivity from aetherspace hunting, not to mention the difficulty of gathering a crew and a ship and expending extra gold/credits and lessons.
While, it is definitely possible to kill gorgogs, cloiers, clouds, pyrinnes, gruuls, hydrians, lixin, slanikks, and serpents, all of those other than gruuls, hydrians, and clouds drop about .1 tons of dust. The cheap stuff comes at around .2 tons to .5 tons. and the best prices you can get by constant -waiting and searching of trading ships- is over 700 gold per. It would really make this more feasible if there was an artifact such as the merchant's ledger which allowed you to see the current trading buy and sell prices of all ships.
These trading ships move constantly while hunting mobs do not. You go there, and turn in all your corpses and are paid. So not only is regular hunting easier, it is pays better. To top this all off, gold must be split between your crew, which will usually come to at least 5 people and that's if you are not funnelling.
Aetherspace hunting tendrels of kethuru and dragons is the most profitable and most difficult. There is major difficulty getting to astral for tendrils and they are honestly impossible to kill with any current ship in Lusternia's existance other than potentially Deepnight, which also moves at a mile an hour (almost literally). And the problem here, is that if you were to make them easier to kill, I assume you decrease their value of worth in dust and experience, no longer making it worth the hassle to aetherhunt over astral bash or undervault with just a partner or even 3 people.
One partner or two friends is much easier to gather than a crew and a god ship.
To be honest, I believe that admin should reconsider the great size penalty and slower speed of ships. If anything, standardize all speeds. If not, place a reasonable cap on the slowness of a ship's speed. I know you are willing to look at things provided data and evidence and I'm willing to die to try and gather it. I just need to know if there's time to work on it as I know Lusternia's coders are often extremely busy.

Second, maybe make it an Empath arti along with the antennae and spider diamonuts. Sorry if it gets annoying that I keep referencing the old days, its because its the only aetherspace days I knew. Mag used to take their low levels and sit at the shield module...free exp...while the Commander spiraled and the siphoner did the vortex sucking. By the end of that run, low level was now level 50ish, ship had max dust, and people were making money.

Ethereal is pretty good for aetherhunting. Not good gold, because it is mostly gargants, but the experience is reasonable.

Never really gave anything but dragons a chance, used to be the lovely ability to shoot through walls, while the mobs pathing made them sit and take it...

See, that's the thing that always confused me. I didn't think what we were firing through were walls. I always envisioned aetherspace as like paths through the void, and what people called "walls" was just empty space where there weren't any paths. For some reason, I always pictured Super Mario Kart tracks floating in the void
Yiro2009-05-19 16:46:35
Hahaha, well I think they were formations of something but the point is, you were shooting through something the ship couldn't itself pass through to hit a creature.

Psh. Energy != matter. This isn't Einsteinian logic here.

I guess..maybe its energy retardant space matter!!
