So I've been running the Windows 7 RC, messing around with it and such and was wanting to hear other people's opinion of it (if anyone else has been using it). I had much different expectations of it honestly, still reminds me too much of Vista even performance wise which I was under the impression that was one thing that was going to be changed.

Runs better for me than XP. I don't really have much to compare it with, although I do know that my computer is running around 10-15 degrees C less temperature wise.

I have been running Windows 7 RC1 64-bit on my new desktop and I'm extremely impressed. I was using Ubuntu until Windows 7 (and Windows XP before Ubuntu).

So, they managed to finally fix Vista into something usable.
I installed x64 and it's ok, although I wonder what it does with all the memory it's eating. Seriously, 1.4-1.7 with pretty much nothing running?

Supposedly, Windows 7 precaches memory for certain applications so they load faster.

Just upgraded from an NLited version of XP 32-bit to the Windows 7 RC1 64bit version. I ran Vista 64bit for a year before switching back to XP, I'm really liking the 64-bit version of Windows 7, I've had zero compatibility issues and it runs pretty damn fast, I also get the full use of my 4gigs of RAM again.
To Kashim: Dunno how you've got 1.7gigs being used with almost nothing running, mine is sitting on 1.07gigs at the moment with a number of things running.

I'm using RC1 and I fully plan on buying the final release when it comes out in December. Some people claim they have problems with Vista, but I've never had any major problems with Vista besides some backwards compatibility issues with other programs. Perhaps I'm the lucky one.

Vista's problems are mostly hardware related, so if you have a hardware setup that is compatible, you won't have many problems.

I had certain software issues with Vista which were a pain in the ass, I've only had one software problem with Windows 7 so far and that was MUSHClient not being able to save my system when I closed it. Not everyone will get this problem as it's related to plugins and if you do I'm happy to provide instructions on how to fix it.

I think the more memory there is the more it feels free to devour.

Are they even going to bother with a 32-bit version? I think they should just drop the 32-bit OS
Desitrus2009-05-12 16:20:55
Don't forget, if you're using RC you have to REINSTALL at retail.
Just a friendly heads-up.

If it wasn't for the netbook explosion this would be more practical, but the Atoms are 32-bit.

Doesn't Vista do this?
