Um... all of these books are absolutely terrible. "Literary works"? What are you smoking? I read the first five when I was sixteen because I ran out of good books and my parents kept buying them. One can imagine that a TV show based on a laughable series of books will be even more euugh.
It's dumb, mediocre fantasy at its most dumb and mediocre. I threw them all on my bottom shelf along with The Wheel of Time.

They certainly have their bad points the Sword of Truth series, and I definitely didn't enjoy the Wheel of Time.

Did I say masterpieces or something? Literary works is just a fancy way of saying books up in these here modern times. Ahyuk. Along with the Wheel of Time books you ripped for your internet name, superfan?
And Bali, I find it hard to see you saying "nerd" when you have partaken in "internet forum D&D" ol chum.
Anyway, a book doesn't have to be a masterpiece to be enjoyable or have a coherent plot that a retelling could stick to. Xanthe novels aren't exactly "WTF AMAZING TOLKINESQUE MASTERPIECES" but they aren't horrible. Not everyone likes what you like, try not to cry about that too much cupcakes.
The point still stands that many things could be "adapted" for episodic television without completely changing certain aspects of the story and then leaving them in. Like Watchmen omitted the squid, that's a healthy omission, some of the people who enjoyed the film wouldn't have if it had overtones of scifi in it that were that far off normal. None of the concepts they changed were necessary in any sense in LotS.

Tolkien was a horrible writer. Enjoyed both Sword of Truth and Wheel of Time more.
