I imagine Narsrim was expecting a rather different response to 22-10. Hahahahaha.

Hey, yeah!
Why should someone be able to simotaneously scry all their allies and enemies at once for no real cost or upkeep!
...oh, that wasn't the poll?
Yes.

Also, just running into a spirit kills it.
I think you forgot to mention, but don't spirits also count towards the total of five that a spiritsinger can have at any given time, meaning one can never have more than five watchers at once and if they have all their spirits set out thusly, they have no access to other spirit skills unless they call them back? Or maybe I'm mistaken.

You are mistaken, although you're not alone in thinking so. Only recently did a lot of people find out, and I think some have bugged it to get it checked. Currently, however, spiritsingers can watch as many locations on any plane as they want at just the 1p cost per room, no 5 spirit limit.

1 power per elevation per room, that is.
3p per room (air, trees, land), and burrowing isn't caught.
For that reason I don't think it's a bug...

They're finding moooar excuses to nerf Wildarrane. For Ethereal, we do use a LOT of power, and the SS who use watchers watch 1,2,3,4,5,6 rooms in Faethorn alone, on two elevations, this past few days . 12 power - not counting the rooms we watch in EtherSeren, and in EtherGlom. We watch the entrances to our Divine's Temples and Realms including the docks. We place watchers in the villages, too. 1 spirit, 1 power, per elevation. Powerdrain. Hint. hint.
Nienla2009-05-14 15:27:35
Wow. Another rant post about Commune skills. Here I thought it was over.
Unknown2009-05-14 15:31:26
Commune abilities? I figured he was talking about Farscout. Which I think is fine.

To be fair preparatory power drain isn't power drain at all. I say this as a pathtwist user. Especially when a policy exists to allow you to draw power for defense.
Not that I agree with Narsrim. I in fact voted no to his little poll.
Siam2009-05-14 15:34:41
Yep, we do have the emergency power policy, I think it's just me, I try to make it a point to pay my power debts. Bad memories of an old debt.

But when it expires every time someone runs into it, you have to return there every time (including in the middle of combat) to refresh it. Someone could burn off a huge amount of Seren power just running around Faethorn.

That's exactly what's been happening to the SS who set the spirits.

Sorry, but I think it makes watching for raids a little too easy when someone can just sit there and actively watch essentially every entrance to an area by themselves.
Where's the fun in it, when you know that you can't sneak into an area by virtue of a single guard?

Use your skills, abilities, and artifacts to make / exploit a different entrance?
For example, Narsrim got a pyramid point in EthSeren and was able to just immediately return there until it was found out without triggering a single watch device.

Not all of us have access to the vast amounts of time or money involved in buying griefing tools... er... artifacts.

Nor do you need that, it was just an example. There are other tools that can be used. It is impossible to guard every room, really (power cost and spam would be insane).

Hey guys, passive detection only matters to single raiders who want to make trouble and get away quickly.
If they were doing anything meaningful, people would find out anyway, if they didn't, then it's probably an offhour raid.
Also, Xavius' point is good.
Edit: There are ways around each. I did got through both ethereals as a Glom and a Seren just fine, in fact.
Edit 2: "Little to no upkeep" is a bit of a misnomer. Of course people on the receiving end think there's not enough (or no) upkeep, but hey, just be "creative", eh.
Edit 3: Lol poll results.
