My underlying concern is that I almost think of this as a joke to address how crappy Bookbinding is as a tradeskill. It's spiffy, it's special, it's also of no real value.

Value is plainly subjective. You play to fight; but for a sizeable proportion - possibly even a majority - of the playerbase, fighting is just one aspect of the whole experience.

I think combat in MUDs is fun. But I don't play them for it. I could get an equally thrilling experience in any number of graphical games. The appeal of a MUD is that the medium of text has far greater flexibility and far greater capacity for expression than any graphical game is capable of producing. I suspect that this appeal is quite wide-spread amongst our players, and sorcelglass is tapping into that. People regularly spend 50 credits to customise their items; sorcelglass is a much cheaper method.

I'd really love to send out aforementioned invitations to tea on customized stationary. Pink. And Scented.

I'm glad for changes like this...I feel like it probably belongs in artisan over bookbinding, but I suppose where there are only three artisans, there are six bookbinders, so, best to get it in the hands of more people. dry.gif

I hope there will be more of this sort of thing coming. Anything that puts bookbinders or artisans in broader demand is a very good thing.

P.S. Letter Seals

Shush to all the naysayers. Not all of us grief and PK all day, some of us actually place value in creating things here, or customizing, or -not- beating people's heads in. This is a wonderful addition and I've wanted this for a few years now.

In speaking with a bookbinder, the only downside I can see is that people will probably sell the scrolls, rather than the completed item, placing the commodity cost in the hands of the user, and the scroll itself isn't too expensive (especially when you factor in five charges). So, because of this, it's not going to be very profitable to bookbinders.

But hey, I'm thrilled. Now to get Sthai working on some designs :whipcrack:

Way ahead of you. I think all five of the cartels I have access to have been exhausted.

I think I need two or three new ones.

Don't mention the P word and bookbinding, they don't go together.

Oh come on people. You break mah little nugglet of a heart.

Sparkleberry wine, year 209 COE.
Special glasses for different wines.

Have a bookbinding cartel that produces special scrolls just for a cooking cartel to produce sets of items that go together and selll the finished product not the scroll.

Vintage wines, people.

dazed.gif

Not to mention specifically designed sets and bottles for families.

I'd prefer it if bookbinding cartels had something substantial to create for bookbinding. I still think it will be sad when the most used and most popular bookbinding ability is... glassblowing.

Oh ja, I know that bookbinders still require an insta-kill. pissed.gif

We require a great, great deal more to be considered "fun" and "profitable by non-Jigan standards" (because I have a tendancy to leech gold where ever I go, drawing in 100k a year as a cook, not counting what the shops brought in.)

But still, trying to draw some good stuff from what we are given is a fair deal, right? dazed.gif

10 power: 8 second delay: Suck your victim into your magic tome, killing them. However, your tome now shows their name and title, and what day you killed them on. At any time, you can give up that name in exchange for 20 charges of your choice in your tome.

Of course, no one would use the re-charge function. We'd just keep it as a list of everyone who got killed by a little bookbinder to rub in their noses later.

Casilu has died of suffication.
Casilu has died by getting hit by a carrimage.
Casilu has died by the might of a turkle.

Jigan says, "God damned spelling errors. Screw this."

Casilu has died of a heart attack.

Psh, if you had the eye, it'd already be halved. But your sacrifice is appreciated and shall lead to an utopia. This knowledge shall be useful.
