Barrier, Pinleg, and Crucify are the only skills that stop tumble after it's started. I think putting to sleep does as well though I've never tested this personally. Shafts could stop tumble if you're real lucky and it ticks at the right time.
Fear if they aren't prone.
Shamarah2009-05-16 18:30:24
Every other class has to deal with tumble. There's no reason bards should be different.
PS. Sleep does stop tumble if you sleep someone during the delay, but only if they aren't using metawake.

Actually it's not the fear affliction itself, but rather, the initial forced movement. Any sort of forced movement in an actual direction while in mid tumble will stop it. In fact, you can even do this yourself to stop a started tumble.

Could you hypothetically dominate someone to move in another direction besides the one they're tumbling in to stop it, then?

Not hypothetically. It can (and has been) done.

You could even dominate them to move in the same direction. They won't actually move because they'll still be off balance from the tumble.
Narsrim2009-05-16 19:32:24
Just make sure you dominate an actual direction you can exit else it won't work.

Even if they had metawake, they would still have been asleep for a small amount of time. Wouldn't that still stop tumble? But yes, would have to doublewhammy it.

Doesn't metawake tic like every .5 seconds or something?

You would have to time the tumble and throw your double whammy JUST before the tumble ticks.

Sounds like if P5 isn't stopping it (which it shouldn't!) for reasons of it being overpowered there's a bunch of other stuff that shouldn't either that costs less or slightly more power and many other uses besides

Rather than relying on perfect fifth, there are other ways to stop the tumble. Instead of that second perfect fifth you can web your target.
I havent read the whole thread, but you dont know enough tumble to speak knowingly methinks.
You can start tumble while entangled, prone, frozen, carcered, etc etc etc. Very little stops it from being started, if you wait to earwort till you are ready to tumble you can 100% leave the bard as I has been done many many times. bards are Broken in this room reliance where they cant actually guarantee a hold.
Pfifth originally stopped a tumble if you did it after they started pfifth (which with the power cost was PSEUDO fine but in some cases was rather insanely unmatched). It stopped for awhile, I bugged it and it was changed back, then it was mysteriously made to no longer stop started tumbles.

I did apologise for getting my facts mixed up there. I went as far as testing it shortly after posting, I wasn't quick enough to post the results though.
As for the rest, there's no other archetype that can guarantee a hold either. I fail to see why Bards should be any different in this regard. It is annoying to have someone walk out of the room after setting it up and making headway, but it was also annoying to have someone walk away as a warrior, and cure all the wounds I'd built up.

If there was an icewall in the direction that someone was trying to tumble in, is it possible to gust someone in that direction?

You raise your hands dramatically, and summon an icewall to the northwest.

A massive wall obstructs your gust.
EDIT: Nope, and it didn't take any equilibrium or mana to try and fail the gust.

I agree with Malarious, bards are room reliant.
