I would gladly accept a system that requires more comms, and significantly less invested time.
We're not kidding when we say you can spend 100 in-game, real life hours forging a single weapon.

I believe you, it's the same in Imperian, except no longer is it worth it, since the ingot's were nerfed and you can no longer get anything that's any good. It's entirely random however, yet I understand you can refine weapons here. You can't back there. It's a flat out grindfest. No second chances.

Only refining is to flat out smelt and try again, also Owen - check your forum messages.

So I caved and made an ur'Guard as well as the Loboshigaru Shofangi just to ascertain whether I wanted to go ur'Guard all the way up, or switch from Shofangi once I got high.
My question is this. For the ur'Guard, bearing in mind if I went Axelord I'd only have to get one decent weapon and the increased damage from 2 handed crits, how would that match up against say BC or BM with the double crit possibilities and including the drama of getting two good weapons? What do you think would be worth it?
That's all for me for tonight. I'm beat. I'll see you all in the morning. Sleep well.

With two weapons you'll crit twice as often, but with a two-handed weapon your crits will be worth twice as much damage. Combine that with a two-hander's doubled stats and rune capacity and, in terms of bashing, they're basically equal.
Yiro2009-05-20 06:16:01
No Azoth, having two weapons doesn't increase your crit rate, it does however increases the number of crits you can get per attack. Axelord needs two axes anyway, Owen. One for bashing (high speed) and one for combat (high precision/damage)

Guess what, both of those sentences mean the exact same thing.

It depends on how you define 'rate'. If you define it as 'crits per second/hour/time unit', then yes, it does increase crit rate. If you define it as 'crits per swing' or, more accurately, 'swings per crit' then no, you do not get an increase in crit rate.
In this case, chances are 'attack' refers to 'round', which is two swings for a one-hander and one for a two-hander warrior.

I was really hoping no one would have to explain it further but there ya go.

Hrm. I was under the impression that Axelords did particularly well in PK with a high speed Klangaxe. All the better to keep them stunned so you can get off another attack. Amputating looks so much fun.

I had a max speed klangaxe (trying to forge one with max speed and higher precision right now) and with the 3 second knockdown stun, you can hit them before they get out of it (So long as there isn't too much lag.) Also, amputation is pretty nice. Two seconds of stun, 600 bleeding instantly, and it has an annoying long cure time (takes three salves to cure, unless they use one of their allheale balances).

If you get any good ones for bashing as a lowbie ur'Guard, I'll buy it from you. As I understand it, I'll need high precision and decent speed, aye?

For bashing, you'll want a max speed with high damage. Precision doesn't really factor into it.

I don't think the miss rate is too high before trans, especially after you get the first ability in axelord.
Though, to be honest, so long as I've been a warrior, I've been trans Axelord.

Oh hi.
1. Precision is not to-hit. Precision determines deep-wounds only. Has no bearing on bashing hit/miss. Up until level 80+, using a two hander is typically faster than two one handers simply because crit multiplier and crit rate are still very low, so high damage and the ability to raze/hit in the same round (cleave) helps.
2. Because of how forging works here (one set of all-metal comms), knight combat has been balanced around weapons that you LITERALLY have .02% chance of forging. I put up a play by play of forging my new axes in mythbusters. It took me almost a full RL week of not playing the game, but running a script in front of a text forge. If you don't have a mallet, don't bother.
3. As to the Demigod/artis debate. Here are some outlying factors people just throw around without explaining. First, search for my post that explains exactly how deep wounds work. Then realize that strength plays the most important role in that equation. Dexterity also plays a part in the "roll" of what wound applies, so having piss poor dex with high str (dwarf demigods at size 25) is still undesirable in most cases. In a recent stat change, PRECISION was made to mean VERY LITTLE, such that super-fast weapons provide more wounds-per-second than high precision weapons. In fact, the difference is so minimal, that it isn't even worth it to burst. HOW EV ER, and that is for emphasis, at low strength (non-demi) and no artifacts you WILL have to pick BC or AL if you want to be top tier. You will have no way to outpace proper curing with hindering, so you must depend on stuns. The examples people will cite you for "Non arti" or "non demi" are all bc/al. I did the whole top tier without artis/demigod and it is POSSIBLE. It is also possible to survive a thirty foot drop or the frozen north by eating your crash-mates, but it's not a case of "people just aren't good enough." The odds are vastly in favor of you failing miserably and someone moving to cure or hindering will stop your kill 100% of the time.
For instance, I was told on Imperian that wardens were gimped. Then I started killing everyone with one, including juggadoodles and his bard alt. That's skill misuse or player suck. The problem of non demi + non arti warriors is that it is MATHEMATICALLY impractical, not some sort of void in player skill. Assuming perfect curing/hindering, you are not going to achieve those wounds, even with stuns. Without them? Good luck.
4. Speed races here are pathetic compared to other IRE muds, don't consider them.
5. Racial/enchant regen is on a separate tick than harmony, which is why it stacks and provides retarded healing. At lower health pools however, it's hard to rely on it since you don't have a ton of wiggle room. Auto kata still speeds up (no idea why, hellew divine) so bashing as a monk is still gravy.
6. Forging is the devil.

And that was the most comprehensive and informational forum post I've ever read on any of the IRE forums. Thankyou ever so much for taking the time to write it.
