I have to disagree with you, Aerotan. I've just recently started to focus on playing the credit market, as it's a quick, reliable source of gold. Granted, the gold isn't much and takes a while to pay off, but when you're pressed for time to be able to play every little bit counts.
The problem you've identified boils down to one thing: patience. If you're patient, you'll be able to buy credits regularly at sub-6000 gold: if you're more patient, you'll be able to sell them at 6500+. You sacrifice the immediate benefit of pumping those 6 lessons into your character in favour of more gold to turn into more credits, etc. It's just a matter of time.
I would like to see a change to the credit market though: the ability to READLOG CREDITS and see anonymous figures of how many credits were sold, for what amount, and when. The 'Average sale price' does not provide an accurate indicator of what people are selling/buying credits for: someone could very well list ten credits at 2000 gold apiece, have them eaten up within seconds, and drop the average price significantly without the prospective seller or buyer knowing what happened. Having more information about the average credit prices would be an invaluable tool to sellers and buyers alike, and give sellers a more accurate indication of what price they should be listing at.

I get the feeling the average sale price is what YOU'VE been buying credits at. For example, mine was in the low 5000's when I got back, though it's been steadily creeping back up to 6000.

No, mine fluctuates fairly quickly. I haven't bought from the market in a while.
