I think a good compromise might be something like, one parent can start the consideration process, and the other just has to show up to confirm it.

That's still going to shaft people with dormant spouses. :/

I'd prefer that they have to deny before the consideration is up, because Arkzrael has been all but inactive for the last long time due to a lack of internets.

Agreeing with Tervic and Harkux.
That way Synl can marry Xiran and give me cousins no matter if one of them is absent!

not sure why inactive people need to adopt children to begin with. It's more or less afflicting something on them without their consent. They come back and are like WTF!? WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME!?

I don't quite understand what you mean here. If they're inactive, why should they even care?

One thing I hated about Imperian. The short while I played. I went inactive for a while and came back with a second parent for my characters daughter who I utterly loathed. I thought I trusted this player but I was apparently wrong. Same thing can happen with a dumb spouse surely. >_> I'm sure Shuyin would have hated going inactive and dealing with the kids I would have adopted while he was gone. I'm far more accepting than him. >_<

I too would prefer a reject over approve system.
If one parent starts the consideration process, the other parent has 1 game year to reject the child. This solves the issue of dormant spouses, and still allows for incidents of both parents not agreeing on a child.

Should get the option to singularly reject your own children, too, if one parent decides they don't want the child but the other is still cool with them. Family drama!

Parent disown Fern.

I would like the ability to merge families, so we can do something with little families that are mostly dormant. Would be nice if I could do SOMETHING with An'Ryshe (even if make it a part of Inseira or whatever...).

Glomdoring's "Great House" shall consist of Nimaet, Nightshade, Ysav'rai, and Inseira. *sagenod*
OH SNAP, if this "can reject in 1 IG year" idea goes through, Xenthos can singlehandedly expand the An'Ryshe family!

I'd like to see minor houses at 10 members, bannerhouses at 25 members, and great houses at 50 members, and they'd all be able to pledge.
Not sure about houses with four people in them though. :S

I think it should actually go like.
Both parents can adopt a child within 1 year by both attending the consideration period. 1 parent may also start a consideration period, however the period will take twice as long, unless the second spouse arrives to start their half of the consideration period.
There should be a drawback to it, while still allowing it.

It would be a hell of a lot easier to just scrap the family system and have people RP it. Do you really need thousands of lines of code just to keep your automated family tree in order? Families epitomize "things that can be handled solely through RP rather than game mechanics". It wouldn't affect anything except the relatively recent expansion of the Great House system, which is hardly necessary, and then the admins could focus on something that matters.

You're going to gettttt it!!
(Yes, it would be easier but the family system is pretty important to some people!)

I, personally, am very OCD and revel in how orderly FAMILY TREE NIMAET is.
