I never knew Blend could do that...I don't notice anything at all :/

doh.gif Blend was just a random skill included by Shaddus out of whim, it doesn't do anything fancy like that.

I know she didn't mean literally, but c'mon. There are no players for a reason.

I don't know if you've failed to notice. But mudding in general is far from popular anymore. In fact, there has been a long standing decline in Mud playerbases -all over-. Making the presumption that a Mud without playerbase doesn't have any neat, worthwhile ideas in it is just naive. The same could be said for their coders, I'm more then sure Guerrand(A coder I know) would have IRE people clamoring for his help/coding skills, but he has yet to create a successful mud and it has nothing to do with his ability or how awesome his ideas are.

By the same logic, you'd assume that we can say, that coming up with new inventions is a bad idea.

I'd have to say that fundamentally this is a pretty bad idea. The abuse possibility obviously part of the issue.

Well We're way off topic in the first place. Secondly abuse isn't even the problem IRE is a corporation, it's out to make money. How do they do that? Credits. Credits that you buy to trans out your trade skills, why would they decided just to give everyone free lessons for nothing? Granted they do often give out credits as prizes and such, but those are for special events not just oh I want to have free skills learned for exercising my trade skill. Trade skills come with their own values and bonuses for learning them.

I think that the main argument against this is really that example given by Casilu earlier on about using forging to stuff lessons into other trade skills. Unless a major code change which involved not being able to get lessons from forgetting a trade skill, it doesn't seem like it'll ever happen.

Great ideas are sometimes in the most obscure of places, so it's always good to listen. Sometimes, certain evidence points us in the direction of "that's a stupid idea" or "it can't possibly work" but given minor tweaking or being applied into the correct manner may lead to great results. This is the Geomancer Administration's way of doing things now. It's quite impressive what ideas my secretaries and undersecs have but that sometimes they overlook logistical problems which, when dealt with lead to excellent effects. (this should probably in the raves thread, but oh well.)
