I read my first Eddings book aged 10. I remember my age because of my mother's utter horror when I asked her what a whore was while reading the Diamond Throne. Anyway. Crappy literature but marvellous escapism.
I'm very sorry to hear he's died.

Spooky, someone told me exactly 10 minutes ago about his death. The last series was a disappointment but I read Belgariad, Mallorean, Elenium and Tamuli when I was about 12 (I seem to remember waiting for the last couple of books for Tamuli to be published) and really enjoyed them.

I vaguely recall enjoying his books in High School. I sort of lost track of which ones were his, though. It's sad to hear of his death, as with any halfway decent author.
I remember enjoying the way the pantheon for his Elenium and Tamuli trilogies worked, and I remember thinking Aphrael was almost cute, in a way, but honestly I can't recall much else from his works.

Hi! I read Belgariad, Mallorean and Althalus books about five years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed them. While I haven't read any of his more recent books, it's sad about his death.

Damn. First Robert Jordan, now this? Who's next, Marion Zimmer Bradley and Piers Anthony?

I haven't even finished the Belgariad yet...

Damn.
I remember the Belgariad and Mallorean. I grew up on them as well. I loved those characters. I'm sad he's dead. I read books, and very often I see the same formula over and over again. Eddings actually had and "All about the world of the Belgariad" which detailed his notes on his world and such and actually how to write a book at the very core.
I miss Beldin.

Um, Marion Zimmer Bradley died a decade ago. (Her recent books are posthumous.)
I've read the Belgariad and Mallorean years ago, and indeed it's sad to lose a talent.

Interesting,
My family always commented on how each book would revise the history, and that the plot would always be the same and were always surprised that the books were popular, assuming it was a marketing issue.
Sad to hear of the loss though. (Just always equated David Eddings with Danielle Steel)

Oh my goodness... I just found out...
I have fond memories of sharing and finishing the Elenium series in the dormitory. I've yet to finish the Tamuli... need book three. And still struggling to find the complete Mallorean and Belgariad series
