For anyone fond of video games and otherwise not living under a rock, you know that the last three days consisted of the Electronic Entertainment Expo. It's the Super Bowl of the video game world. The place where all of the big wigs in electronic entertainment gather to show off their new stuff.
Here are my Top picks from my favorite things shown at the expo.
5. Project Natal
Youtube video of the hardware
Pretty impressive technology. Judging from the video it looks like the motion recognition is spot on. It's on the list for being impressive, but last because I don't think it will ultimately 'change the face of gaming' like they are exclaiming. For one thing, I don't want to play a video game using it. I think most gamers will prefer to have the tactile feedback that a controller offers. It looks like it's best hope will be for mini-game packages like you see with Wii sports, and for other utilities like it shows with the girl trying on clothes. I don't think it will really affect the games that most 'serious' gamers play, though, unless it's used in conjunction with a controller. Like if you're playing an FPS and walking through a forest, you could put your arm out and move bushes out of the way or something.
4. Milo
Youtube video of the software
Again, on the list for being impressive. Low on the list for reminding me of skynet, and because Peter Molyneux is the guy presenting it. I love Peter's games, but I take any new thing he presents with a grain of salt. Not a very trustworthy guy.
3. Halo Reach
Gamespot page for the game, including trailer
Like most people who owned an Xbox and an Xbox 360, I own all of the Halo's and I love them all. This one is based on the novel, or so people believe. I havn't read the novel, but judging from the trailer it is set in the bast, before the events of the first three Halo games. At one point in the video the guy talking references "#1", so I expect we'll be seeing more of the other Spartan's, and what happened to them. It's just nice to have another Halo game coming out. Also, there is another one, Halo 3: ODST, but I'm ultimately more excited for this one, from a story standpoint.
2. Xbox 360 to have a 10 Year Lifespan
Gamespot article
I don't like spending money, so that's really the only reason this is on here. The Xbox 360 is supposedly going to be around until 2015 or so, which means I have a lot longer to enjoy the system I have without buying a new one.
1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Gamespot page
A new sidescrolling Mario game for the wii with multiplayer gameplay inspired by 4 swords adventures. And the levels are inspired from the older Mario games. Apparantly the very first part of the first level starts with that one block out in front of you, just like the original Mario. I don't think this needs justification for being so high on the list.
0. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Gamespot page
This deserves a spot even higher than number 1. Definitely the game I am most excited about that was shown at E3. It's a new 3D Castlevania game...which are notorious for being mediocre but never rising up to the legendary-ness of the 2D games. But watch the trailer. And note who the game is being made in association with. Also note the voices. That is all.
trailer
It's also coming out on the PS3 even though I linked the 360 page.
Honorable Mentions: New Metroid game being made by Team Ninja, Assassin's Creed 2, Mass Effect 2, Mario Galaxy 2, Left 4 Dead 2

Nothing matters but the Monkey Island Remake.

Yay Metroid and Castlevania!
Edit: Also, apparently a new Golden Sun and Zelda for Wii! I'm a bit of a Nintendo fanboy.

I was never big into the first Golden Suns.
And yes, there was a new Zelda mentioned, but I didn't put it on the list because there was barely anything shown about it.
With two new Marios and a DS Zelda coming out within the next year or so, I doubt we'll also see the new Wii Zelda any time soon.
It is supposedly done in the same style as Twilight Princess, so that's awesome.
I also forgot to mention Left 4 Dead 2! That looks pretty awesome.

Don't forget Sony's motion controller, and the new KotOR!
And a new golden sun??? I loved those two games, beat the heck out of both of them when they first came out!

Crap, this means I have to buy a DS AGAIN. I've sold two DS Lites because I don't play handhelds. Time for a DSi, I guess.

I would go with a DS, if it is like the other game (lost age) you will be able to transfer your Cleared game to the new for stuff.
Richter2009-06-06 03:54:13
I should hope there's some way to. That was an amazing feature between 1 and 2.

Eh? The what?
There's a new MMO based on the KotOR stuff. It has a cool trailer.
Unknown2009-06-06 23:23:12
Made by Bioware? This isn't the first announcement about the Old Republic MMO. Though more news would certainly be appreciated!
Unknown2009-06-06 23:42:02
It's an MMO, it will have little to do with KOTOR gameplay wise.

Heavy Rain.
I've been waiting for this game a long time, and so far I'm very impressed.
Thank you, Quantic Dream.

I'm kinda interested in the new Zelda for the DS, but a bit iffy.

The Grinder looks pretty great. So does No More Heroes 2.
