I too like the 20 rank system (rather or not the titles are good or not is something different). GuildFavours should not be easy to get, or at least the higher rank the more difficult the task(s) should be for the GF.
The system already balances that out. My GF as GM will knock someone from 1 to 2, or 2 to 3. But as I just proved earlier today, it doesn't knock someone from 8 to 9. The higher you go, the more favours it takes, so the more things you have to do. I don't advocate giving out stupid favours, but I think it's more than acceptable to give someone a favour if they jump up to defense no matter what, or lead people on a hunt, or hold a nice, if small ritual. Because there are more ranks you can be more relaxed about what you give favours for.

Actually, here's an idea:
Every guildfavour from a GM, GA, or GC would equal one rank. So if I'm GR4 and I get favoured by my GA, I'd become GR5, which is currently NOT POSSIBLE. But it should be from GR1 to GR19. Additionally, two favours from any non-GM/GA/GC would equal one rank, so if I'm GR4 and a GR8 favours me, that's halfway to GR5. It would allow for 20 guildranks but also for the possibility of people to advance well beyond GR12/15/whatever's the highest solely based on positions.

This, please.

The only problem with guild ranks is this:
1. Nobody cares after getting gr3
2. Those that do care get gr20

Actually, if we're doing it that way let's have any guildfavour boost a rank.

In the Celestines, the only guild-favour I've ever gotten (that wasn't through a preset "do this and you'll get ranks" deal) was for sitting by Raziela for almost the whole time she was in Muud during the first Raziela event, and ironically that favour was worthless since I was still working on basic advancement tasks back then. Same happened when I was honoured. Instead of being GFed up to my rank and then honoured, the honour was used instead of GFs. (Well, not entirely). I think part of the reason is because you don't get anything for moving up ranks. I think the only guild-power I've gotten that wasn't position-tied is Senior member, which I got at... rank 9 I think. The way to solve this is through making the ranks matter more (in my opinion). The city-rank system is too small a hierarchy in my opinion. I prefer the 20 level system of the guilds (but in the end that's more a question of taste).
And Nihilists don't limit their Necrophilia to liches? For shame!

I would like the 20-rank idea better if it were possible to get favours to matter. GTS is the only thing that I worked towards in the SS for a long, long time... now I have it, but it's really, really hard to move farther up. I would like to move GTS to GR10 and let each guildleader-favour gain you a rank automatically, or maybe half a rank after 5, or something... Something more arbitrary, so it's possible to feel like you're achieving something when you get a favour from the GM after GR5.

I'm in love with the old Nihilist titles, they sound very post cosmic hope. I would be against reducing the number of titles, but I agree with Ried there should be a way to promote people higher to make it viable to become important rank wise without contesting for GR19 (as we saw in that great guild, the Cantors).
Perhaps a command akin to guild advance, but up to GR10 for advancing guild ranks like GUILD PROMOTE, this could functionally allow favours to pus one up to more unusual heights. Also it would allow for some changes in advancement systems for unity (that may just be my concern though).
