Argh, just days like today are exactly why the lack of rants thread being gone is really bad for me. Can't get anything to go right and I'm this close to just going ape censor.gif over aetherchannels because of it.

Dakkhan created a forum for people who want to rant. Toxic Atmosphere is the name, and you'll find a link in the "Real World"

1) Do it!
Alternatively:
2) Log off and do something else for a while.

I think those are your two sanctioned options now.

I dunno, I've enough self-control to just turn the negativity energy into something positive (Hello GR2), it's just a matter of it being very cathartic to just be able to vent sometimes. I think the removal of such things from the forums fails to take into account that fact.

You can still express your frustration with events in the game. Just be polite/mature/constructive about it.

Where? Start a thread just to complain about personal issues your character has?

We had a thread for that, and it's been deleted - and the majority of those rants were polite and mature. They may not have been constructive, but the reason they weren't constructive was because it may not have been a game mechanic or balance issue, just bad luck for the character that day.

I don't understand the aversion to making your own thread for things you want to talk about. Especially when the thing you want to talk about isn't already being discussed in a conversation in another thread.

Thread = conversation != status messages on facebook or twitter (hint tongue.gif )

Who wants to start the Lusternia Twitter topic? biggrin.gif

Who wants to start to stop complaining about censor.gif everything?

Srsly... it's a game. QQ and go do something else for a while instead of complaining about the lack of virtual complaining available and inability to get a virtual pat on the back from a person you don't know... blackeye.gif

In my honest opinion, it's because the lack of rants allowed you to mini rant with everyone else (something that wasn't around until, what, a year ago anyway?), but if you make your very own topic saying, "Man, I'm having a bad hour or two on Lusternia because of X person Y skill and Z org", they'll realize how petty it was.

If it's not petty, they'll probably still start a thread about it, and address it in a way that (hopefully) is PG.

Some people really, truly don't have anything outside of Lusternia. Most do, but not all.

Some people have invested a lot of time and money (some have put a couple thousand over the years they have played). Something you invest so much into feel they should get be able to say when something makes them made without having to make a pages long thread about something that (most cases) is no one's fault but the player.

We are human, anger is an emotion. It feels good to us when we are able to release that without there having to be a long discussion about it.

I think of 'mini-rants' like status updates on Facebook. In Facebook, I might post a status update: "just tripped over absolutely nothing. Why am I so farkin clumsy?" or "just paid almost three dollars a gallon for gas. *sob* Whyyyyyy?" These sorts of things would not warrant a whole note's worth of posting. They're just a momentary annoyance that I felt like sharing to help vent the annoyance.

One or two line rants like, "Gah... fifty vials all decayed at the SAME TIME! angry.gif " are the same sort of thing. It really doesn't warrant a whole thread of it's own, but it makes you feel better to post it.

But, I'm happy restricting my little rants to the new rant forum and sticking to more constructive complaints here on the official forums. happy.gif

Exactly. And IRE has an official Facebook thingy to get you more xp. so why not rant on facebook or twitter for those "status updates" (or better yet, the ooc clans IG, or tells.. thats where I always used to do it.)
To me forums are for conversations, (and semi active mafia games) not status updates. But that's just me.

edit: Crazy idea alert: Mafia mini game inside of Lusternia Arenas.

I think I first I first encountered IRE and IRE MUDs some... fairly certain it was some eight years ago or so, when I gave Achaea a try. And while I haven't bought as much credits as some have, I've certainly spent a couple of thousand.
Over those eight years, I don't think I've ranted more than ten times, including "proper" complaints. At the same time you get people who make ten rants in under a week. Not because I'm constantly on crack, not because my (real and IG) life would be trouble and worry free and certainly not because I'm a superhuman.

There are things that one shouldn't keep inside, true. I'm also aware that the vast majority of the playerbase are in their teens, thus emotional by default, bu really... this much fuss because suddenly you can't complain that person X jumped you? that person Y is a griefer and a douche bag? Seriously... what do you plan to do with real problems?

If a person in all honesty has to vent because of vial decay or something as trivial, they either:
1) seriously are not well
2) have no idea what so ever what a problem is

P.S.
Come to Europe, I pay more that that for 1/2 the amount of gas. biggrin.gif

That's actual not true. I haven't looked at the numbers lately, but you'd b surprised at how many players are over 18. I know there's a spike around age 20 (and a smaller spike at around age 30). Just goes to show!

Then it must come down to geopolitical and socioeconiomic factors. Either that or what Richter suggested...

Hi, Estarra.

I just wanted you to know that I personally support the removal of the forums entirely, or at least the rants/idiots section. This comes from an Imperian player who was actually kicked out of her guild and city (by a known metagamer and anti-RPer, I might add) because of negative rumours regarding me that was spread entirely on the forums. As an avid player of all four IRE games since late 2005 and a credit buyer, I think that without such a conduit for metagaming and hostile interaction, the games themselves would be a lot better off.

The sort of harassment and griefing I've been subjected to include: being called an "it" as if being deprived of my personality and humanity; direct personal attacks against me; in-game attacks, punishments, and ostracization; and even threats of physical harm and violence. But what's worse is that these attacks go unnoticed by the forum moderators and are even encouraged by other forum goers. The "bandwagon mentality" I've seen in many of the IRE forums is absolutely insidious and repulsive, and I've found myself having to suicide/create new characters constantly because they carry over their hatred into the game and RP.

I play IRE games because I want to immerse myself in a new world and enjoy it. Not to be harassed and griefed by forum metagamers, and I think that, with the removal of these forums and maybe even punishment to any IRE player who is found using a forum to metagame, the games themselves would have a lot more positive and RP friendly attitude. I don't know the extent of roleplay on Lusternia as I haven't played on it for a while, but in Imperian it's just devolved to some sort of Achaea-style douchebaggery and metagaming.

...?

You do realize that this sounds very one-sided, and that your text carries the feeling that a lot more was going on, yes? I mean, I don't know much of anything about Imperian and Imperian's forums (just as you don't know much about Lusternia and Lusternia's forums), but I don't see this happening here without the person actually going way out of their way on an OOC level to draw such ire (Sano and Soraka are about the only two that come to mind).

Perhaps this is not entirely fair to you, but as you are using your experience on a different forum to judge what's going on here, I think it's fair to use my experience of this forum. If what is going on there is actually what you say, then there are some problems. With Imperian's forums. Wouldn't this be better off being presented to Imperian's moderators / administration, where they can actually judge the merit and take appropriate action, if necessary?
