You do realize that this sounds very one-sided, and that your text carries the feeling that a lot more was going on, yes? I mean, I don't know much of anything about Imperian and Imperian's forums (just as you don't know much about Lusternia and Lusternia's forums), but I don't see this happening here without the person actually going way out of their way on an OOC level to draw such ire (Sano and Soraka are about the only two that come to mind).

Perhaps this is not entirely fair to you, but as you are using your experience on a different forum to judge what's going on here, I think it's fair to use my experience of this forum. If what is going on there is actually what you say, then there are some problems. With Imperian's forums. Wouldn't this be better off being presented to Imperian's moderators / administration, where they can actually judge the merit and take appropriate action, if necessary?

I don't know why you're analysing Allison's post in depth. It's enough that she had a bad experience on Imperian's forum and is complimenting Estarra on reining in ours. Whether or not it was necessary to do so is surely moot at this point; either way, you must admit that the already relatively calm and mature atmosphere of this forum has become even more friendly since the change. I haven't had to moderate anything yet.

There also haven't been as many huge drama-causing events. I wouldn't be so confident just yet!

True true.

Fact of the matter is, Estarra wasn't told by IRE to clean up the forums at all! She just wanted to get rid of the rants subforum before announcing an amalgamation of our existing cities into New Celagnagorest, the City of Tainted Light.

Sweet!

If I would have to guess, I'd say that the key contributing factor to the decrease in posts being moderated is the drop in activity on the forums. I don't even necessarily disagree with the dismantling of the Idiots section, however, it's quite evident that it was a good source for what these forums really amount- entertainment.

We play the game for entertainment and these forums are simply another form of it. There's quite clearly areas in which people can ask legit questions concerning anything from rp to mechanics to artisinals, and then there was the delightful little Idiots section. Now that that's gone, our playful verbal shenanigans have no home.

I don't think it's really a matter of calm and mature so much as simply dead air.

Excellent, now we can brand the believers of the Light as hertics and infidels.

I'm really not talking about Lusternia's forums in specific. It's more of an "in general". I just felt like expressing my point here. On top of that, Imperian's administration has told me in the past that, said people who kicked me out have every ability to do so. There's no official god-given right to be a part of a city or guild. So while they were technically perfectly allowed to remove me from the guild/city, that just makes matters even worse because they're abusing that ability by metagaming and harassment.

So Imperian's administration can't do anything about it, the forum moderators, who are players, couldn't care less (and the gods themselves rarely if ever visit the forums) and everyone else doesn't care because they're so blindly fixated on following the socially coolest guy in the game for extra cool points and thus turning against me. This sort of "social PKing" is the perfect example on why forums across IRE in general need to be more strict.

It's like seeing a wounded gazelle while being a big, strong forum-lion. I CAN'T HOLD IT MUCH LONGER.........

I'm disputing your "in general" given my own experience right here. On the forum that you are giving your opinion on, by trying to relate a completely different forum... which, apparently, has a completely different setup-- we have a whole 1 player-moderator here, the rest of the moderating team is Admin. No, Daganev and Richter do not count since they're inactive more than active.

Also, to Fain: As was stated, the biggest reason for the decline is less about a "happier atmosphere" and more about a "dead atmosphere". People've just been having their conversations elsewhere is all.

Well, Lusternia is in my eyes the least "harsh" of all the IRE MUDs. You'll see in Imperian and Achaea, and to a lesser extent Aetolia, that people care more about trolling on the forums and metagaming then actually enjoying RP. In Lusternia you have all these Gaia Online avatars and the Dragon Cave things and it's all just snuggles, cuddles and giggles from everyone present. I mean I haven't heard of a single Lusternian who is an obnoxious douchebag, except for maybe Soraka (whose dramafest I was unfortunate enough to witness a few years ago).

I'm glad Tears of Polaris is mostly anticipated by Lusternians, because I'd hate to see some of Imperian's hostile database take a dump all over a fledgling game and turn it into something resembling Infiniminer.

I'm actually thinking about just quitting Imperian entirely and maybe moving to Lusternia. I don't really enjoy the combat system as much as the other games (I'm too familiar with the "standard" perpetrated by the first three games) but it does seem very flexible and not as cookie-cutter as the others.

Infiniminer, by the way, was a great game that was turned into a festering cesspit by 4channers after someone discovered that you could take the open source client and modify it to basically be able to ruin the experience for everyone else.

Sorry in advance if this text seems really incoherent or vaporous, or doesn't make much sense, because I just feel very 'lofty' right now. It's hard to explain. Like, detached. I don't know. I'll stop bothering everyone about it now.

Hey guys, let's keep the caustic remarks about other people (yes, unfortunately, even Soraka!) to an absolute minimum. Since they aren't necessary, let's try not to employ them at all.

And to Xenthos, I kind of get the feeling that the fate of all the forums is linked together - should, say, Imperian and Achaea maintain a highly toxic atmosphere and they decide to shut down the forums, Lusternia's (which isn't and rarely ever has been very bad, I'll agree) will most likely go down with them. We're hoping that, by employing these measures, we can just stop it before it starts - if it's going to start - here on our turf. Get my drift?

Imperian and Achaea are definitely the most "toxic"... Aetolia isn't as bad, because they're all emo vampires or something over there. tongue.gif I haven't played there much.

The sad thing is that there's really not changing it. Achaea is one of the most famous (if not the most famous) MUDs known the man, and so it attracts more than just roleplayers - it attracts 4channers, OOCists, metagamers, griefers, trolls... people who are just there for the PK, all that kind of nasty stuff. The same goes for Imperian, except it's just not as popular (the lowest I've seen people online was around 30).

IRE exerts a lot of control and influence over both the forums and the game, and even though they're all radically different, decisions in one do effect decisions made in another.

Achaea follows suit, rabid ranters rise up in protest as The Woman lay down her power.

It seems that removing Rants has gone IRE-wide.

It took them right at 30 minutes for a player to create a forum which is already being posted on and can no longer be moderated by IRE.
