Night three without power. I am grateful we didn't suffer any damage and the water is still running, but I swear if I wasn't at work most of the time, I would be going crazy. Maybe I'll have to spend my day off tomorrow... Outdoors! fear.gif

Has Hallifax fallen out of the sky without my stabilizing influence?

I got elected mayor, disbanded the council, and will let fear keep the guilds in line.

Don't mind the missing towers.

It was a tropical storm for us in Vermont too, and the winds were really mild. I was out in the eye of both Gloria and Belle, I've seen weeklong power outages and trees down plenty, and this was milder than a thunderstorm. But the flooding is what did us in. More than 260 road closings, a lot of bridges washed out (including several irreplaceable centuries-old covered bridges), and entire downtowns underwater. There's more than a dozen towns that you can't get into or out of still. I think we'd've been better off with hurricane winds than all the rain we got.

We got a lot of wind here too, and rain, but not much flooding in my neighborhood, by some in other parts of the city. I know the news mentioned a lot of felled trees due to the wind, and down at a park several blocks from my house a tree was toppled, though since it was away from any homes and buildings and because only someone crazy would be walking out in the weather we had, no one was hurt. If I had a camera I'd take a picture of the tree.

The more you tighten your grip, the more contracts will slip through your fingers.

I had an ice-cold shower this morning before work. I refuse to ever touch such cold water again. Ever. I realize that by declaring thus, I renounce all Canadian in me, but I'm cool with that.

It begins. You've taken an important first step today. Soon...

Ugh, no matter what I do to my Lexus, it is still getting terrible gas mileage. I'm averaging 13 mpg. I'm going to be broke soon if I keep driving it. Luckily I'm able to get by right now walking to classes and only drive if I need to go to the store or visit a friend. I would like to sell it and get something with better mpg(or at least more powerful for that MPG range), but I'd be upside down selling it this soon........

Well if you do get a newer car. Ive been driving my 2009 chevy aveo and im getting over 25mpg. Only cost me 10,000
Daraius2011-08-30 21:50:40
Once again I must recommend the Yaris. wub.gif

Know what has worked out great for me? Windowless van.

New cars are pretty expensive. Mine was only $3,200. I'm afraid that anything much more than that is out of my budget. I'm not going to finance a car at this stage of my life(and I haven't built up any credit yet either). Newer cars cost more to register, insure, and repair(yes, new cars break too).

Sorry, after this Lexus, and the experience I've had with my dad's toyota, no more Toyota products for me. I'm going back to the Big 3 after this car. They've treated us right to date. Toyota's god complex shows strongly with their parts prices. Arrogant bastards shouldn't get half of what they charge for parts.....

My dad's 99 Saturn SL-2 is a decently reliable little car and gets up to 40 mpg. It's going to my little sister though this december when she turns 16.

Also, for the first time in my 21 years of living, I have failed a test................
....it was the employment assesment on the Wal-Mart job application. Epic Fail.........

Don't take it too hard, It's a sign you shouldn't work at Walmart. It's a good sign.
Stangmar2011-08-30 23:09:22
I figured as much, but the pressure is really on to find a job right now.....
Krackenor2011-08-31 00:13:02
If it makes you feel better, I once had to go through 3 interviews in order to work backroom at a Target. Keeping in mind that I am a college graduate with a clean record applying for a retail job that regularly employs 16 yr old high school dropouts and former convicts.
Stangmar2011-08-31 00:30:04
Yes, that's what's funny. I have a college degree, look very clean and respectable, and have no criminal record. The kid in line before me who applied had spiked technichromic hair, white-trash style piercings and tattoos, and had to have his girlfriend help him figure out the computer because of his obviously low IQ. Sadly, he probably got the job.....
Everiine2011-08-31 01:43:51
I didn't get a job at Target because the person misdated my drug test and tried to claim that I did indeed get interviewed at Target at 1:30 AM. Sadly, I still shop at Target instead of going to Wal Mart.
