Feeling worse today than I have in a while...guess that should be expected though. My depression always hits me like a truck in the wintertime. Blugh. I just want to go back to sleep. I don't even feel like playing Skyrim and that's been my primary use of free time for the past few days. I'm so glad I already finished working on my final art project stuff before this hit me. Just gotta make it through final review tomorrow.

Excessive CO in my kitchen. Turns out my oven is the suspect and I will be without it for a good while.

On the plus side, I didn't die.

Not dying is good, but so is cooked food.

Well, i'm still unemployed going on 4 months straight. I do have a potential job offer coming this week. The flip side is that if I get it, I will not be going home for Christmas. But hey, I've spent the last 2 christmases away from home, what's one more?

So in Skyrim I went the lightning magic route for my destruction magic (naturally) and recently got the Disintegration perk, where you have a chance of turning your enemies into ash if you hit them with lightning and they have low health.

Well, turns out if this happens to a dragon, you don't get a soul from it. I found this out when I turned a damn dragon into a pile of useless dust. So I've effectively made it that I can no longer use my best magic while fighting them unless I want to risk getting nothing for it. Great. Fantastic.

Some dragons don't release souls. It's odd, but it happens.

Sounds like a bug to me. Another reason not to buy Bethesda games at launch.

I reloaded my save and killed it without using lightning and it had a soul.

Well, with save games, it should be easy to go back, right?

Yes, which is what I did! It was just a normal dragon so it wasn't that much time wasted. However if I'd gone through a whole fight with one of the stronger more badassy dragons and found that I had to do it all over again, well, I would have been mighty flustered. It's more the fact that something that is supposed to be an entirely positive perk could have gotten through with such an obvious error. Did they really never test killing a dragon with lightning on a character with the Disintegration perk? Or did they just decide it wasn't important enough to fix? Bethesda why
Lawliet2011-12-15 15:48:59
Huh, that's odd because I've ashed dragons and gotten souls from them. It's not as obvious that it's about to happen though and I think you need to hang around for a little while longer and get fairly close to the ash, if not... It's a bug, make sure your patches are up to date.
Unknown2011-12-15 21:32:56
I hopped up and down on it for like 5 minutes in disbelief. Well, the disbelief was unrelated to the hopping. I just hop around a lot because it's more fun than standing still.

I've never patched my game though, and have encountered honestly very few bugs. That's the third one that's affected my gameplay at all (plenty of just weird stuff that doesn't hurt though, like flying mammoths that fall to their deaths after a few seconds) and the other two were pretty easy to work around without having to reload saves.

I will stop not using lightning and if it happens again, I'll try standing there and running in circles around it to see if I can find a spot where getting a soul is triggered. Or maybe it'll just work! But I'm saving as soon as I start fighting dragons anymore. If it's still broken I'll assume it was fixed in a later patch and just deal with not using it.

You should take a break from Skyrim for an hour or so and play the free DLC for Bastion.

Oooooooo. I never open Steam so I didn't even see that. More achievements for me to achieve, more fun things for me to...fun? Anyway...

It breaks immersion, but you can always add a soul with the console.
Unknown2011-12-15 22:05:50
I guess. :( The only time I've opened the console so far was when I had to turn noclip on when a pressure plate trap that causes one of those spiky walls to swing out and hit you got triggered, and the wall actually swings out so that it pushes the pressure plate down constantly, so it never closes... that was one of those times I couldn't help but laugh, it was so stupid. Laugh, and be glad I know the command to do that.

Oh god I know. In Morrowind I jumped EVERYWHERE. But I usually just run in Skyrim. :P

Horses. Why you die to dragon?
