250 dollar textbooks. Good god. Argh.
Also, I miss my fountain pen. It's high time I pick up a new one, but finding somewhere that sells them in my area for under 100 dollars (I don't need a custom monographed one!) is not always easy.

I think there are only certain hours a bill collector can call anyhow.

You can rent/buy ebooks and etextbooks for waay cheaper at kno.com. And they're viewable via ipad/android app or regular computer browser. I use them all the time.
If you want to try them out, the coupon code NATASAN5 will get you (and me) $5 off, no expiration.

Do they work with kindle?
Unknown2012-08-20 21:21:50
I'm not sure if they work with kindle, as I've personally used the in browser option since I type my notes in class. Though it does show as downloadable for Windows 7, so maybe the application could be transferable?
Eventru2012-08-20 22:17:21
They should be.

I used to use the dip pens in high school to write notes. Such a good time. (the point was to get comfortable enough with a dip pen in writing that I could do art with it)

I do like calligraphy pens, buuut I really don't have the fine motor skills to do calligraphy. I can barely produce legible handwriting as it is.

I got tired of having a dirty house. But why does scrubbing the carpet and cabinets have to be so painful? Blargh. Well, if I clean more often, it'll be easier.

I would be the one human being alive that feels genuinely bad for scaring the sweet baby Jesus out of my little pet rat when it turns around and bites me and turns my hand into a bloody fountain of mostly-numb blargh. And my mind has not come to "I should kill that little thing and kill it again for good measure."
A bit of backstory, their cage was knocked over earlier in the week and they all peaced out like it was the start of a little rodent revolution, realized they weren't fit for survival outside of the cage, and decided to start coming back out today. I rounded up three, when I went to grab for the fourth and he freaked out and proceeded to bite. He only bit one time then calmed down, so I think he realized that it was THE GREAT GLORIOUS PEOPLE-HAND THAT FEEDS that was snatching at him, I assume that if he meant harm he would have done so much more than just one bite alongside horrible claw-rending-and-mauling which did not occur.
I only figure he was traumatized and thought I was the cat trying to eat him, so even while my typing (and most of my hand-function) is handicapped for a little bit, that he didn't mean it. D:

I should be spending next week hiking, fishing, and going to the casino, but I had to postpone that till next month. Instead I'l be having a stay-cation probably spent playing GW2. On the upside I'll be having 2 vacations in the span of a months time.

Even better(in my opinion) then buying ebooks,I would just hunt around various sites until I found a free PDF of my textbooks. Got tired of spending hundreds of dollars on them, especially with so many professors that barely used them.
And even if the class was looking for a brand new version of the book which PDFs of would be hard to come by, older version usually worked just as well. Generally they have all the same content with possibly a few additions or changes, but maybe the chapters are arranged differently or the study questions are in a different order. Though, I had one professor who I told I had an older version of the book, and he said he still had the the page and questions numbers for that version for previous semesters.
I also had friends in the same classes who didn't mind letting me borrow their textbook. Though that one is kind of moochy and it was usually a close friend I was borrowing from (guy I went to school with since kindergarten).

I'm dissatisfied that Brevik was declared sane. It used to be that people recognized that we are all a little bit insane sometimes. Yet today not even Brevik is declared insane even part of the time. I think that in declaring him sane they are legitimizing his crazy ideas that motivated him to do what he did. It's a sad state of affairs and I think that to declare someone like him sane shows the hubris of modern society.
Ssaliss2012-08-25 07:49:01
Being an ignorant moron != being insane. Just because he was declared sane doesn't make his opinions and actions more "legitimate"; it just means he knew what he was doing all along. Besides, didn't he say he'd appeal if he was declared insane anyway? I say just shove him into a cage and be done with it.
Xenthos2012-08-25 13:22:55
I agree. Declaring him sane does not in any way legitimize what he did. All it does is say that he was in full control of his actions, he knowingly committed an atrocity, and he should be held fully accountable for it. Calling him insane would have been letting him off the hook, and saying that he wasn't responsible.
Insanity should only be when someone truly has no idea what the consequences of their actions will be and cannot tell "right" from "wrong" (the very dumbed-down version of legal insanity). Otherwise, the individual in question deserves to have their ideas discarded as the steaming pile of excrement that they truly are while they spend the remainder of their life accomplishing zilch.

Insanity is way overused and is a way to coddle to criminals.

I start college tomorrow, and even though it's not my first semester, I'm super nervous.
I'm going to be learning C++ and MySQL, working with Emotiv headsets and Arduino, and be taking two other courses that (generally) are multidisciplinary and teach user interaction.
I'm not usually nervous about college, but... I am this time for some reason.
