Kayaking two miles with the worst sunburn I've ever had, all down my arms from my shoulders. blackeye.gif Everything hurts...

I hate my landlord. It takes him a really long time to get around to general maintenance stuff, so much that I'm extremely lucky when everything is in working order at the same time. He overcharges for this place as it is, and constantly dumps his garbage in my garbage bin, so I have to pay for it. His shop he runs his business out of is technically on the same lot (and thus the same electric bill), where he's running a bunch of machinery, sometimes through all hours of the night, and I get to pay for that too.

Now, he's not saying outright that he's evicting me, but he's passive/aggressively hinting that there's another group that's looking to move in, and he'd like them in better because they'll pay more, or something.

It would be a blessing to get away from him, but I don't have the money to move right now. D:

It bothers me when armored female fantasy warriors are depicted wearing the ever-present "chainmail bikini" — not because of any feminism or conservative values on my part, but because it's censor.gif stupid.

It also bothers me when people try to cram as many weapons as possible into the hands of their sci-fi/fantasy characters. I remember seeing fan art of a female Jedi (in a bikini, naturally; not a robe) dual-wielding quadruple-bladed lightsabers. Each double blade was two-pronged.

I think this sort of thing bothers me because piling on foolish gimmicks suggests a lack of creative thinking... but it's also just annoying in and of itself.

There are certain armour sets in WoW that put a "plate bikini" on female characters. I absolutely LOATH this. One hit to the belly would do them in! ><

There's also a fanart pic that I hate, more because of the sheer fan-service-ness of it, that depicts Arthas and Illidan as women fighting each other. Now, granted, Illidan as a male is normally pretty scantily-clad. Arthas, however, ALWAYS wears full armor, and in this pic, "she" is depicted wearing a freaking plate bikini, big honking boots and gloves and a giant cape. It looks RIDICULOUS. *rages*

@Riluna - good luck with your landlord. hug.gif I know how some of them can be. ><

Really shouldn't be looking at Tropes at work. >< My tools are borked enough though that I can get away with browsing now and then. >.>

There is no "now and then" with TVTropes.

I'm vaguely inclined to agree with Everiine at the moment.

Truthfully the plate bikini makes me giggle. Tho it is usually the "plate bra" that makes me lmao. And I thought that the Arthas/Illidan female pic was actually nicely done. *shrug* that's just me I suppose.

It's sad when you discover that people who you thought were nice are actually very horrible.

The true character of a person generally reveals itself only when the chips are down.

I wonder what the revelatory catalyst was in your recent experience?

People in general are sometimes nice when it suits them, and at their core nearly always horrible.
Shiri2010-05-27 06:37:34
Only if you think it makes sense to describe people in terms of "core" and "outside" instead of multiple states of mind based on situation and company.

Everyone has bad sides. When you assume by default that the bad sides are the "real" ones you limit the conclusions you can draw.

I believe people do things that have an added benefit of being friendly with another, helping another, helping a group, ect., but I don't believe that their motives are entirely altruistic. People always have underlying reasons tied to their actions that are motivated by ego, survival, or another base emotional or physical need.

Anyhow, rant: I can't sleep. That makes me sad.
Shiri2010-05-27 06:58:40
Studies of evolutionary psychology have found that people can have purely selfless motives for things because given how imprecise evolution is it's very practical to build in general altruistic motives but impractical to make sure they only apply to people that share genes, or people the altruist can be sure will reciprocate it later. Feeling good about helping people is part of the way you're motivated to do it, not some kind of flaw that invalidates it.

We've had different interactions with people in our lives, I think. biggrin.gif
