She said sign up TO read. I.e, you can't just browse, you have to make an account. So the number of accounts is irrelevant.
I know what she said - and I'm still not forcing anyone to do either. If anything the accounts (which are now at 53 I believe) show that people are interested. If you don't like it or agree with this forum, don't sign up.
Besides, the reason for having to sign up is so you agree to the terms of the site and that you're 18+. That's just the way it is.

I didn't read the post the way you are.
I read the post as saying that 53 took a look at the forums, to read them. But you may not have 53 people who are "signed up" to stay on the forums and be there.
For example, on these forums there are 7K+ members. But there are even more people who read the forums, but don't have an account and don't log in. (like google.bot for example )
Shiri2009-06-18 03:45:51
Daganev got it.
Anisu2009-06-18 06:24:09
Of those 53 people a lot of people were just curious of what other people were writing about them. I visited Verithrax forums to just read them to, especially when someone told me there was a rather eloquent message involving Catarin and me.
That doesn't mean they wish to contribute to your forum or even like the concept, it just means they are gathering intelligence on who to be pissed at, also your terms of service imply censorship.

It's not MY forum. It's everyone's forum. That's what forums are for. Groups of people. A forum by myself would be a blog. Besides, when did I say contributing members? I said interested, which they must be if they're there. I'm just counting the people who signed up - about half of which have contributed to the madness already, and more if you count the chat room.
Oh, and I refuse to censor this group of people unless there are instances of piracy and XXX material. That's where I draw the line.
Shiri2009-06-18 09:03:03
So you're not talking about "interested" at all, since extending Anisu's quite correct suggestion of "gathering intelligence on who to be pissed off about" into the definition of interested wrt the actual forum and its role makes it so broad as to be useless. I'm sure we can all agree that that's how many people are signed up, heh.

C'mon, don't knock it 'til you try it.
And people being interested in the stuff others are saying about them isn't -that- broad.
Shiri2009-06-18 09:19:13
By no means am I knocking it. I'm just skeptical of any claim about its popularity or whatever when what Anisu describes seems to account for probably a little under half of the members. I'm also a little interested in how many people will use it (like, actively) for a little while, then get pissed and stop, but I guess there's no good way of measuring that. Oh well.
Dakkhan2009-06-18 09:21:48
Then here's to success!
Daganev2009-06-18 16:35:35
The chat feature sounds pretty cool. Is it prevasive, or a specific page?
Meaning, can you read different forum threads while being in the same chat window?

It's on the main index, doesn't follow inside boards but also holds context since it's kind of like a more active shoutbox.
Unknown2009-06-18 16:48:22
ooo...neat, I'm signing up.
Daganev2009-06-18 17:08:41
We need a facebook style chatwindow on these forums.
Shouldn't be too hard to code, just stick the forums into an iframe on the page.

If these forums couldn't handle Lack of Rants, I don't think they could handle a shoutbox.

Shameless plug for Lusternia IRC!!
Dakkhan2009-06-18 18:52:47
You can open the chatbox in a different window if you want to make it a chat room. Where it says "there are x users in the chatbox", join the chat there and voila.
