Ladantine is a family name? I thought that was his first name...
Unknown2009-06-20 09:34:29
It says in the histories "Marylinith Ladantine" so I figured it was a last name. Unless he's Emperor Ladantine Ladantine the First?
Catarin2009-06-20 13:51:07
He could have been Landantine not because it was his first name but because it was his..family name. Or something. Like the Duke of York might be called York rather than Jimmy or whatever. Though the historical information doesn't make that seem true since he was Sinenth's great grandson and she referred to him as Ladantine.
If that is the last name, there would probably be a fair bit of dispute whether Ladantine was a Magnagoran or Celestian name. Historically it would seem clear that the roots of the Emperor's family would be Celestian but someone could argue that... Actually I'm not sure what someone would argue to try to get it as a Magnagoran name since it's only Ladantine himself that was corrupted by the Taint and its not like he settled down in Magnagora. Not a general lifestyle for the whole family. And I never got the impression that their was much more actual family besides him and Marilynth. I suppose there could have been cousins or what not. Must have been really. Or someone could claim that they're a descendent of the illegitimate child of Marilynth and Dolph Inalai (since they were engaged).
I always just took the lack of clarity of a family name for the Emperor's/Empresses as them either coming from one of the other Imperial families and it being policy that when that happened they would no longer wear the family name to prevent claims of partiality. Or they just went around raising children without famlies to Emperor. Or that those who actually were of the Emperor's bloodline changed their name and blotted out all record of it in order to avoid repercussions from the angry masses. Who knows.

He's actually Emperor Ladantine VII. Based on how royalty is named in the real world, i.e. Louis XIV, from there I'd speculate that Ladantine is his first name, not family name. But Marilynth Ladantine does make it confusing...

Dith and Schurida, are they first names, or last names?
Also, if the Diodori were to apply to one of these and be accepted, would we be allowed to have pre-existing designs that include "Diodorus or Diodori" modified to be in line with the new family name?

I've wondered this often myself, and don't have an official answer for you - if I were to take a guess myself, I would say Ladantine was his family name, and it would have been a lesser family - not one of the Imperial Families. Ladantine was the nephew of Empress Sinenth, which was a family name (not her first name, which escapes me at the moment) - she had a first name that was most likely cast off when she became empress. Likewise, the other two spectral emperors are Emperor Ladyn and Emperor Nerale, both of which are, again, family names. So I think it's safe to assume Ladantine is a family name, not his first name. Imperial Families also are Imperial Families for a reason - not because they had an emperor chosen from their family or the like.

*poke for clarification on my questions*

I'm very tempted to start a family of very loud, annoying mugwumps and take Globglob's last name.

Also, if the Diodori were to apply to one of these and be accepted, would we be allowed to have pre-existing designs that include "Diodorus or Diodori" modified to be in line with the new family name?

I know Dith is, I'm not sure about Schurida (Don't tell Estarra - I'm notorious for being a stickler about histories, and everything she says/writes tends to stick to me like glue, the poor woman!) at this very second.
If House Diodori were to apply to be one of these and accepted, you would need to talk to the Charites about having pre-existing designs modified. That would be a fair amount of effort (especially considering you're probably talking house symbols/insignia and such that may/might/probably would need to be adapted), but it's not something they would by definition be opposed to (though I think it would be the exception, not the rule! That's still their call though, not mine - I know it's definitely a lot of work to manually go through designs, so I can't promise anything).
They're also both dracnari/Gaudiguch families (I believe!), so I don't know how likely it is to see them founded as Houses prior to the release of those organizations - that is very much so Estarra's call, however. I just know that we're not very fond of the idea of important families from one organization ending up split between two or more organizations, or dying out before they ever really reach their full potential.

Good thing the family said they'd like Schurida better then! There's still hope for it!
As for the symbols, actually, that wouldn't be all that much of an issue. The Diodori family's symbol is a Blue Flame with a pair of Golden Wings reaching out from it, so I'm pretty sure it'd fit with the Gaudiguch theme. All our designs are pretty Gaudy too, pun intended!
Eventru2009-06-23 16:56:21
Where are you getting Schurida from, anyways? I just did a quick run through of the Taint Wars, and I don't see anyone named such - nor do I see any mobs with that last name. So I'm a bit confused. <.<

Sineth is a first name, actually. Sorry for the Necro, but I only just found out.

Except that's Sineth. Not Sinenth.

Gnarled hand gripping the intricate coral staff marking her station as a mage, Sidalt Sinenth gazes steadily at her surroundings. Her features are wizened, skin furrowed and delicate scales dulled by age. Robes of deepest purple lined in silver hang in folds to her feet, hiding her form. Though stooped slightly with age, her posture is proud and she easily maintains command of the area.
Sidalt Sinenth is quite powerful.
She weighs about 100 pounds.
She is loyal to the Nyalia Centre.
You cannot see what Sidalt Sinenth is holding.
