Doesn't that seem at all, you know, counterintuitive and likely to create an unpleasant split within the city?
Yeah. It does. It's by no means as strong as it used to be, but back then it was immense.

Maybe they're going to split away and form an independent Loboshigaru pack.

Nope. Pretty much all Tahtetso literature I've gotten has been about them trying to distance themselves from the Light and the Supernals.
I think you've a poor understanding of the Tahtetso and their ideologies. I believe they've attempted to identify themselves as more than Paladins-with-sticks, not distance themselves from the Light.
Maybe take some time one day and go exploring, and attempt to understand the Tahtetso (without going in believing they reject the Light). I promise, every guild in Celest is a Light-blessed guild and worships the Light (though maybe in a slightly different way). And actually, the sentiment you express is dishearteningly common - it's a terrible misunderstanding, one that I know the Tahtetso have, for a very, very long time, tried to dissuade!
Kiradawea2010-01-04 02:41:02
The last book I got from them was all about being in Celest without being with the Supernals... so yeah.

Sounds like heretic writings to me! Burn the heretics! I know the Tahtetso'll get the torches for us.
Ahem, what I mean to say is - the opinions of the individual are just that. As I said, the Tahtetso are of the Light, even if certain individuals would rather (or think) contrary. Just like you can have Celestines and Paladins who think the Supernals are party-poopers (it's happened!), I'm sure the Tahtetso will have their nay-sayers. C'est la vie.

I told him that I refused to publish it because it was essentially heresy yes.
But the point remains that this is something I've seen a lot of up through the times, with the Tahtetso loudly objecting to being identified with the Supernals. "They" (meaning not all, but some. And especially the older leadership back before the first Raziela event and the immediate time after it unless my memory fails me) were insistant that the Tahtetso would follow the Kephera teachings and have absolutely nothing to do with the Supernals. I remember having very heated discussions with the then Guild Master of the Tahtetso. It was fun, but it also gives me a bad after-taste as the gardens seem history-less and shallow.
Meh, maybe I'm reading too much into it. I love the design itself anyway, though I still suspect you guys cribbed the Aquamancer gardens from my early Island Garden draft.

Even Celest's collegium quest outright states that, while the Tahtetso ideology is sympathetic and amenable to the Light, it is not the Light.
Also a little baffled by the Rhapsody -> Light thing, but that's more because there's no information on Rhapsody to be found.

So it's fine to say something like that but it's heresy (and therefore kickable without warning) to say that Celest has sided with the Taint. Gotcha.

It's not like the light really is anything... I mean, is Celestia the light? Sure, but wasn't Shallamar the light too? But Continuum and Vortex are apparently not the light. The Water plane would appear to be 'light' as well. Does that mean earth was 'light' too? Why not air and fire, then? Fire gives off a lot of light!

The Light is Celestia, yes - a place of life and healing. Shallamar, I suppose, was called 'of the Light' because it's in the same state as Celestia. Vortex is an 'unborn' Cosmic plane, Continuum is a 'dead' Cosmic plane, while Celestia and Shallamar still have their Cosmic beings (Supernals and Emanations/Demon Lords).
Or so I understand it. Hey, I'm not really Celestian to know.
Jack2010-01-04 03:16:18
I think "the Light" is just an idealogical banner to mass under. I'm sure the Gaudiguch, Hallifax and Magnagora pre-circa Taint Wars would've all classed themselves and their Elemental/Cosmic Planes as "of the Light" too. In the modern climate it's just the particular belief of Celest, and peculiar solely by virtue of the fact its more metaphysical than the Taint or the Wyrd or Nature.
Unknown2010-01-04 07:40:00
Jack has it about right I think. IC I might argue with some of that, but from a player perspective I agree.
I would also have to agree that I see no non-Light or anti-Light sentiment in the Tahtetso RP or players, they asked me to write some help files for them detailing what each Supernal stands for! Which I still need to do...eep!
Also Elohora is the Light, the physical embodiment of it, so if you want to talk about touching the Light, grab yourself some Elohora.

Well, try having a talk with Scuchi about the light, it will clarify a lot for you.

Bring some booze and weed and say you come with gifts of appeasement. Or sleep with her, I dunno.

Holy wow. Imagine this, Eventru is the only one who knows what they are talking about! Actually Kira all that book says is that the Light still eists without the Supernals, ie the Light does not depend on them to exist. Do you think that every time the Supernals are killed the Light vanishes? I mean really....
Several claims made here are actually very wrong, for you Kira, I have a sampling of Tahtetso advancement tasks!
"S30" (30 marks): Write or discuss the importance of inner focus and manifestation of the Light in one's personal self.
"Sermon" (50 marks): Prepare and present a sermon or lecture on the teachings of the Tahtetso guild and how they relate with the teachings of a Celestian Divine or the teachings of the Supernals.
Tahtetso Philosophy to follow:
The Sati is the part within each mortal that corresponds with the Light and virtue. It is the part of us that motivates us to empathy, to perform good deeds. Even those who do not actively follow the teachings
of the Light, indeed even the Tainted, still have the Sati to some degree within them. It is what motivates us to create, to tend, to care for.
Lumosis is the state of being enlightened and completely in tune with the Light inside each of us. It is the goal of all Tahtetso, and indeed possibly other Celestians, though they may not call it by this name. When one has achieved Lumosis, one understands perfectly what the Light is and how one fits into it. It is not a state of purity in the sense of naivete or ignorance, but a state of purity in that one has fully become a follower and being of the Light.
Such a state is surely very difficult to achieve for mortals, and indeed all mortals can always find some aspect of themselves that is lacking, that can be further meditated upon and perfected to come even closer to Lumosis. One might declare that the Supernals, for instance, have achieved Lumosis, but their own varied philosophies show how Lumosis can take different forms for different individuals.
I see the words Light and Supernals there a lot...damn those heretic monks!
Lawliet2010-01-04 14:49:08
I believe Kiras main point is that in the past there has been arguments about if the Tahtetso follow the light, and you can't really contest that, even if your current writings agree that the Tahtetso follow the light or not that doesn't mean that the members previous to you have agreed with it, those tasks aren't godly written, after all.
I mean the Aquamancers are supposed to be scholars but there are members and will always be members that have never written a scholarly piece.
As for the light existing without the supernals... This is debatable, they don't die completely, after all, they can be raised back, also, it's never been very clearly defined as to what the light is, Lawliet personally believes that it is just the ideals and beliefs that the supernals created, as such, the light IS the supernals but is still seperate.
