Oh, look! Azoth's killing npcs. Get him! Oh, wait. Aetherplex.
Dear Admin,
Can people who recently killed org npcs NOT enter the Aetherplex until the declaration wears off? Please?
Thank you.

This. Add to it with ANY peaced room. Code them to expel you if you have an outstanding declare. Or just yanno, remove them.

Wait until the raiders have cubixes. You'll wish you had the chance to at least stop them on the way to the Aetherplex.
PS, Guido: Kick and run raids? That's just weak. (NSFW)

Yes yes, everyone knows... after I started leaking it.

Anyway: so? Because he's an alt and everybody knows who he is, they're treating the character as though they've got more experience than they "really do"?
No, actually people are treating Kalin as someone who can do things based off his actually getting off his ass and doing crap. Being 'young' is not an excuse to not support someone, being lazy is though.

This. Exactly this. Lusternia is filled with far to many people who base their impressions off former characters. Kalin != Gregori. Anyone who has actually taken the time to put aside OOC BS and talk to him can tell you that. Hell, Kalin even likes Raguel and Everiine, whom Gregori hates with a passion. *shockandawe*
Rika2010-01-11 11:58:54
Does that mean Kalin won't hate Rika?

Also, election posts. I was happy not writing one before someone else decided they had to write one. If no one writes one, no one loses out. Why do people have to write them?
Xavius2010-01-11 12:10:11
Let's see if I can make this post without actually referencing anything specific.
Not everyone you like is actually going to be even a half-decent leader. A decent leader has the ability to see what's going on and devise concrete steps to fix things. An election post can give you a good sense of whether or not a person is worth gambling on. Establishing credibility is good, but election posts that look like resumes and nothing else are usually a sign that that's the wrong person to vote for. Election posts that either point out problems without mentioning concrete solutions or that preach on about the values that should/could/will be held are a definite sign that that's a failed leader in the making. We have the gods for figureheads. Until you have Shayle's creepy cultlike influence powers, you shouldn't try to fight them for that spot. We have leaders for getting stuff done. If you can't see what needs to be done, you'll be outed as a horrible leader when things aren't going well.

Baha, every single Aeromancer is running for GM, including the ones who aren't a high enough GR to actually contest. This ought to be delicious. Someone update me on the Pyromancer situation please.
Dregs of the dregs, as I said. I wonder if it'll be a 20-year-old alt or a failure from another org that gets it.

I'm not running, because it's a waste of time. Guildmaster is a very un-fulfilling job.
edit: also, Guardians first for Researchers and Illuminati. Screw this Warrior noise.

I could care less IC who Kalin is an "an alt of". OOC, if his experience as a leader helps him be a better leader IC then so be it.
The only thing I care about is if he carries over his ideas of people from his other character (this is why it's rare that I share my alts with people). If he doesn't, good.

If this were a Star Trek forum Xenthos would be everyone's least favorite nerd.
"AAAAACTUALLY, in episode 13 season 4 Captain Picard's badge was green in scenes 4-6 and blue in scenes 7-8, NOT blue in scenes 4-6 and green in 7-8. Therefore there were no continuity problems within this episode BUT it does go against the precedent set in season 2 episode 4. Get with the program guys."

The difference is, those are facts, and easily verified. Xenthos's comments have no obligation to be connected even to a fictional reality (and regularly live up to that lack of obligation with panache). But at the Star Trek forum, he'd be called on inaccuracies. Like the ridiculous claim that me saying "combat trumps culture" means I'm saying "combat is the only factor" (to be fair, a subtle distinction, but only beyond his desire to win at all costs, not his actual ability at rhetoric).
(Incidentally, the role domoths play in Culture is also pretty telling. Let me guess. Domoths also aren't about combat. To be fair, bards/scholars gathering was never about culture either, but it didn't used to be about combat, so it was still a means for non-combatants to contribute.)
The point is, Lusternia used to be one of very few MUDs where cultural contributions had their own means of mattering. Then it didn't anymore, at least a lot of the time. Xenthos's head in the sand doesn't change that any more than the admins' heads in the sands do. Lusternia has done a great job of recognizing and fixing most of its mistakes, to Estarra's (and the other admins') credit. Their dragging their heels on fixing this one is now the only mistake bigger than doing it in the first place. The good news is, we're just one event from fixing it. The bad news, we have been for... what, a year and a half, two years, now?
None of which is really germane to the point that combat encroaches on everything (all Xenthos can attempt to argue is it doesn't encroach as much as he tries to argue I am claiming it does) but nothing else ever gets to encroach on combat.

The 100 adjective description of Atellus' Splendors causes my opponents to pause and question if they should destroy something so beautiful.
I do agree with you Lendren, but I also think there is a very large aspect of the game that is not always directly ruled by combatants, politics. Now yes you could argue that becoming a guildmaster or org leader without any combat ability is harder, but it does happen. Once in power players can do all kinds of things to limit or change combat.
I am sure there are many examples of this but the one I am familiar with is how celest and seren had a big war and then players on both sides worked very hard to bring peace about which lead to an era of celenwild (which as far as I know is long past, but I left at the beginning of the end). I know the lack of combat between the two sides was mutually beneficial at the time, but it still did occur.

Lendren2010-01-11 13:56:44
There are several elements of the game that by design aren't ruled by combat, and politics is one of them. Economics is another. Combat tends to try to encroach on all of them to varying extents at different times. Few are ever totally free of it.
Combat is inescapably and by design the largest part of the game. And it should be thus. No one's suggesting otherwise. No one (at least not seriously) is trying to eliminate or even significantly reduce the importance of combat.
All anyone wants is to save a few places where you can do something else and have it depend not on combat. And that's not even just for "non-combatants", it's for everyone who wants to be able to do something other than combat even if other times they also do combat. That's what I mean about a "holding action". It's not trying to reduce combat, just keep it from expanding into everything else.
