So now I understand why muds go to the trouble of supporting MXP!

Indeed. Additionally, learning to excel at fighting other players requires not only a proper client, but also either personal scripting skills, or the services of a skilled a scripter.

I'm not particularly looking forward to this baffling and time-consuming process, but I learned to fight in Avalon, and I'm damned well going to learn to fight in Lusternia, too. I will probably switch from CMUD to MUSHclient, learn Lua, and haunt various forums and IRC channels looking for advice when needed.

Here's some advice to get you started: don't write your own system; use one someone else has written.

Darned power node is hanging around longer than it should and keeping me from working on the statue.

It needs to be emptied. Just link to it until it explodes and kills you.

Don't know what happened but something broke. Since nothing's been changed I've no idea what - but I've at least fixed the situation and will try and keep an eye for it.

I think learning to script a system myself will ultimately yield better results than using someone else's work, since I will actually understand how my system works.

Besides, it seems people don't like to publicize their offensive systems, and I'll be needing one of those, too.

Yes we do!

And we need essence for all sorts of things. It gets a bit annoying if someone starts squandering it.

For us it's a tradeoff. Instead of doing all the wonderful variety of things Lusternia offers for us to do, we can either grind to make esteem to keep gravity up when needed without draining Maylea's essence, or we can let ourselves be forced to be part of Nienla's fantasy of being chased. The former is just less unpalatable than the latter! (But we're also hoping Estarra was serious about eventually doing something to limit pointless raids without limiting purposeful ones, so eventually we can look back at the breathtaking diversity of activities Lusternia offers as being actually possible again.)
