Actually, while I think the immunity-to-guards loophole of divinefire is certainly an important aspect in here, that's not what I was asking for. I'm asking for the whole question of the ten billion ways to escape, versus the three-and-a-half ways to prevent escape; and the ten billion ways to walk in, versus the one-and-a-half ways to stop people walking in; etc.; be rebalanced so that offense involves tactics and risk.
The village thing makes it better in that the raids actually have a purpose. But this isn't conflict. That's the point.
But if people are just going to mischaracterize this as being asking for "total lockdown" then why bother to listen to them?

What? This is conflict. That's the whole point of the village Conquest system being in place. Glomdoring is killing aslarans in Shanthmark because we hold Paavik.
By the way, there are no ten billion ways to escape in Distortion. You already stop a great bulk of them already. If anything more is blocked, then yes, you are asking for a complete lockdown of any area.

I didn't expect you to play that strawman, Sojiro.

We can't crit guards.
How many ways of escape are there in a distorted village?
Here's the 4 I know: slow-ass cubix, transverse, painting, walk out. Which of those is completely unstoppable?
In fact, you can stop each of those quite easily if you chase.
Edit: Hey now, even I admit that's just an exaggeration, but that's not the main point of that post anyway.

I am not in the least surprised to find you calling this conflict, Nienla. You probably thought that the road runner cartoons were an essay on conflict too.
But actual conflict involves a situation in which two sides are in opposition and are able to affect each other's outcomes in a significant way.
Sidd2010-04-19 23:09:16
There definitely is not 10 billion ways to escape from Shanthmark, there is 2 maybe 3 depending on how you want to define things, there is DF and run past guards and everything else requires set up.

It's not my fault that you keep buying your gravity shrines from Acme products.

Walking out is unstoppable against divine fire.
(I'm not even going to bother to layer this in the disclaimers that would avoid the missing-the-point legalities quibbling. This conversation is now entertainment only anyway.)

Which I would call "tactics".
Of course, getting past them in the first place is rougher, but once things are set up for the raid via tactics... well, one of the points was that it should take some tactical thinking, right? This most recent one took a fair bit of setup (and sneaking past an Iasmos sitting at a guard clump).

Lendren, while I am in perfect agreement, this is not the way to go about this. All that will happen is that a mod/god will delete this section.

Okay, but the issue still remains that without Divinefire, a 50-guard clump means an area is completely locked down.

Which makes lot of sense when you're all enemied come influence time. Adding Conquest was silly. The strong org (Glom, in this case) gets a bunch of perks. The rest of us get much less. Why is there anything more to Conquest than just "kill things, we like you". That matches up fine with "influence and we like you" and "trade and we like you". The whole Conquest pool is stupid.

No, THREE fifty guards clumps lock it down a bit. Otherwise you just airpike over guards. Acrobatics is a pain in the ass to stop.

We're enemied to Serenwilde, which doesn't matter much when influencing.
The entire point of Conquest's "active" method is that they like you more if you kill them.

Don't get enemied to the village while it is loyal to an Org, have to attack it's denizens while it has no affiliation
Also, pretty sure bard songs stop airpike, or they did when I used to steal miners from Rockholm

Absolutely, DF is nuts like that, and you know my feelings about DF.
Though it is stoppable, but the skills needed to do it are in the hands of a such a small group of people that it might as well be unstoppable, yep.
Btw stunguards stop airpike IIRC.

What would you suggest? Most of the times that an egregious, game-damaging imbalance was fixed, it came after something like this. Not much else differentiates the background noise of people always complaining all the time about everything, from the critical mass of complaints when there's something that seriously needs looking at.
Anyway, I certainly didn't intend this explosion of posts from the GFDS, but I suppose I ought to have. That, too, is a symptom. The lady doth protest too much, methinks.
