I enchanted 33 in one sitting for Arimisia.
Then she had the gall to tell me I missed some.
Turns out she had had extras sitting in her shop that she forgot to have enchanted previously.
She still owes me for that too!

Now a days, I look on forgers with jealousy. Especially if someone wants me to enchant their splendours. To 70/70.
EDIT: I'm sure they also look on forgers with jealousy as they pay for each new set of robes.

We've been looking at it. It'll be resolved soon, I hope!

Remind me why we didn't get enchanting robes tweaked too.
I wonder if it can be envoyed. 70+ cloth per robes is just..painful.

In general the comm requirements for tailoring are kind of odd. 10+ comms for a set of gloves? 11+ for a satchel? Robes are 90+ and splendors are a whopping 125+. The only thing I can figure is that one fabric comm = 6" of fabric.

My favorite is that a bra takes 8 but panties take only 3.
Still, coming from artisan where a wall sconce that does nothing, lasts 25 months, and can't be maintained, takes 10 comms, most useful things take 200 or more, and we have two things that take 1000... nothing in tailoring makes me flinch.

All trades are like that. The comm requirements are supposed to represent the increased difficulty of making the item. Believe me when I say, you like this system better. You wouldn't want to spend one cloth comm and two IG hours (five OOC minutes) crafting one pair of gloves. You wouldn't want to be off-balance for fourteen hours because you crafted some splendours. Better to invoke suspension of disbelief on that one.

Oh, so the recent lag wasn't just me? I'm still away from home, on a netbook and a non-cable Internet connection, so this time I was unsure.
Well, it hasn't killed me yet, though I've been carefully avoiding orc elders in the meantime.

This seems to be server-side lag, so while you're frozen, so are the orcs; so it's nowhere near as dangerous as network or client-side lag. (Though it's still dangerous, since some things, both server-side and client-side, depend on the clock.)

You're right, I did notice that the denizens also get frozen. Nevertheless, I prefer to err on the side of caution.
If I were hazarding a guess, I'd say it's the recent Earth Day event causing the lag, since apparently there were tons of extra denizens wandering around aetherspace as of yesterday.

Becoming an artisan made me rather loath of these kinds of things too. While I was learning the skill, I looked at wallfeatures and thought "the cost for these doesn't seem too bad, why are they so under-utilized?". Then I made one and saw how long it would last. And why do stools have just a fraction of the life expectancy of a chair when they require only half the comms and just a small difference in lessons invested? Why can't stools just... last half as long as chairs, or even 5% less? I like stools over chairs. Argh.
Lendren2010-04-27 18:02:21
Plus stools won't do the things chairs do (work with desks and tables). I wonder if the Charites would let you get away with a chair design that was stool-like.
We have several skills that do things that are solely decorative, but when we ask for more patterns, they won't give them to us because who wants things that are solely decorative? And yet 90% of tailoring is solely decorative, and they have so many patterns it makes one dizzy. No one wants our decorative things because we have so few patterns, and they cost so much, and last so little, not because people don't want decorative stuff! (Plus, our decorative stuff doesn't even bloat the object database since furniture is treated separately.)

And tailoring's decorative stuff can be mended. And if you turn it tawdry, it still has value.

If I had to guess, I'd say the reasoning behind wall sconces having such a short lifespan is that they shed light. On the other hand, stools having such a tiny lifespan makes absolutely no sense to me.
In real life, an artisan-made piece of furniture will last at least one hundred years if properly tended to, or even several hundred if it's also restored a couple of times. I'm in my mother's house right now, and the table I'm computing on, the chair I'm seated on, the chest of drawers in front of me, and in fact 90% of the fine furniture in the house is at least twice my age, more in many cases. That includes stools and ottomans, and it all looks more-or-less like new.
The abovementioned furniture will probably outlive me, too, unless the house burns to the ground at some point.
I know real life isn't totally comparable to games (particularly because stuff has to decay if you want to sell more of it), but it seems to me that most furniture, no matter what it is, should last something like 300 game months at a minimum. Also, all furniture items should have a similar decay time, no matter how simple or elaborate they are, or small or large they may be.
I actually feel the burn of useless crafting abilities, too. I'm a Tinkerer, and no one seems to use enchanted horns or music boxes, so Vivace, Largo, Tempo, and RoseGlasses are really the only abilities worth having. There are more useful abilities in Enchantment, despite the fact that almost 90% of the lessons spent went into the Tinkering specialty. (I knew what I was getting into when I transed it, but that doesn't mean it's not sucky.)
Seems like some of the crafting skills could use a good looking-at from the admins....
