What can you expect from people. /shrug
I find the spring trap chains much more annoying then the pits. If we sit at Mother for a few moments after you guys come in we basically can't walk off it without sacrificing somebody(probably me /sad) to the insta-moved 3-4 rooms into a pit.

Solution: Don't sit at Mother!

Thanks, 'tru!
@Jello: I understand the difference between server and client side lag. I'm on Tinyfugue (which should be every bit as fast as Mudlet), and judging from speeds off commonly-triggered things (standing after a mob hit, first hit on domoth spawns, etc...) I'm just as fast as other people on a given day. It wasn't just me, many people reported lag spikes over the past few days.
... And apparently I get pwnt by the Glom demi-zerg lag or not. 6 deaths in under an hour FTL...

I'm not a Demi and proud of it.

In order of ease of navigation, I'd do it like so.
Gaudiguch(It's just so SMALL.)
Celest
Glomdoring
Magnagora
Hallifax
Serenwilde

Serenwilde is quite easy to navigate... especially if you have the in-game map on, you can practically see half of it at once.
Shiri2010-04-30 03:48:20
Celest, Mag, Seren/Gaudiguch, Glom, Hallifax.

Them changing the map is the biggest problem at this point. I want it back, and am tempted to start a petition for it. We can expand using temporal rifts or into the center of the city

Or around the outside of the towers. I never really understood the "We can't expand!" stuff.

I don't see it getting changed back, sorry.
Edit: I still think all you need is a small directory and, with the mildest amount of effort, people will learn their way about the city, just as you have. Sometimes I think people are 'spoiled' by the ingame map - myself included! As an interesting fact, Hallifax's layout was setup long before there was a map - imagine navigating it then! Heh.
Lillie2010-04-30 04:53:03
I agree with Eventru...I remember before the ingame maps were released, and now that I'm dependent on them I can hear my 2007-self scolding me for lack of navigational skills and reminding me that the map is a privilege, not a right. A tool, not a crutch...etc...
Eventru2010-04-30 05:03:20
Well, I'm not saying that necessarily. I'm more or less musing because I find it interesting.
Lillie2010-04-30 05:55:18
Well, now I just feel completely foolish.
Eventru2010-04-30 05:58:35
Well, I agree, they're a tool, a clutch, etc, I'm just not scolding people for using them, nor am I saying 'Rawr it's a privilege, not a right!'.
They're there to be used. Though I think it's in everyone's interest if they learn to navigate without them - as sometimes there may be areas without maps (or intentionally misleading maps). For instance, for some time we considered not mapping Continuum at all (because of how impossible it'd really be)

Everyone would have hated you forever
Eldanien2010-04-30 06:23:24
The map of Continuum was actually quite confusing. Like others, I didn't understand Continuum until after I read the CHELP on it.
I still don't 'get' Hallifax, though. I can usually find my way to my destination after a while, but it's seldom a straight shot unless I'm following CHELP DIRECTIONS.

CHELP MAP!
Thanks to Aloysha for making it less confusing.

Ok, going to make another attempt to explain the layout of hallifax. The problem with Hallifax is that unless you see it as a 3D structure it doesn't make much sense. Once you see the 3D layout, it's quite easy, hell, I'm a god (meaning I don't have to bother with navigating) and I have no problem at all moving mobs around the city to the locations I want them to be.
The way to navigate around the city in a circle on the same plane consists out of moving up and down in consecutive ways, the layout in this is actually quite friendly, since there is only really one route this way. I.e. you can't actually take a wrong turn when you are doing this, as long as you choose consecutive up and down exits you'll stay on the same layer. When you have that down it's just a matter of remembering where the important bits are in relation to the matrix and how many ups and downs (approximately) you need to take.
P.s. I am not saying that hallifax is easy, obviously it's not, it's a lot more complicated then the other cities. I'm just saying that if you take 30mins to an hour to wander about and get lost a few times the city will soon start making sense to you.

The way that made me understand it best at first was the idea that Hallifax is just two pyramids with their bases together. The top one is from ward one to four and the bottom (inverted) one is from ward five to eight.
Rael2010-04-30 13:46:14
Earlier I posted a screenie of what Hallifax looks like in the Mudlet mapper.
Here is a link to a video so you can get a better idea of what the mapper is capable of and why it is very useful. You basically point to a room, click, and you'll speedwalk to your destination. Wow, pretty cool!
You can open up the video in Windows Media Player but you might need to download this from here first.
If you want to try out the mapper for yourself, see the post here. You'll be up and running in less than 15 minutes!

Yeah, that's the same way I imagined it when I was trying to figure it out at first. The original in-game map of the city helped a lot too, since you could visually see where you were in relation to other things and could actually see the levels gradually expanding and then narrowing again as you went up/down from the bottom/top.
