I sat in the same room as Leta when she was enchanting some robes for me once, and that was bad enough. Never again.

If you're enchanting a cube with hundreds of charges via powerstones, it should be possible to create a script that automates the process, replacing wielded powerstones as they disintegrate. In the meantime, you could read the news or browse the forum.

Felicia is an enchantress, but I don't mass-enchant empty cubes (I put a bit in my personal cube here and there), so I haven't experienced the full scope of that yet.

With a Cube, you're sitting there while the enchanting is done automatically. You lose equilibrium once, then watch a bunch of spam. If you do most things except for SAY, it will interrupt the process, and you have to start again. I have a script that will make me stop enchanting if my powerstone disintegrates, wield a new powerstone and start again. I can't do much else other than talk to people though, because it'd be interrupted.

At least with robes, I can set up a script to ENCHANT ROBES whenever I regain equilibrium, and I can do stuff like read news and talk on GT without interrupting the process. Either way, it's pretty mind-numbing. sad.gif Like that 3 1/2 hours I spent influencing almost nonstop.

... and yes, I'm sure 3 1/2 hours doesn't sound like a lot to most of you. It would've been longer if I hadn't had to get to bed. ><

Lusternia's bashing etiquette is interesting.

The nigh-universal taboo against kill-stealing in online games is observed by nearly everyone. If I'm in a room attacking a denizen or denizens, most competitors will move on looking for a new room. I've always done the same.

Then there is broader etiquette, which varies greatly from person to person. Some players, upon realizing that someone else reached a bashing area before they did, will leave in search of another bashing ground. Others will stay and compete as best they can. Personally, I tend to leave the person who got there first to finish by themselves, and tell them via PM that I'm departing. If I killed a few denizens before realizing that someone was already there, I'll usually hand over the corpses (or at least drop them on the ground), too.

Something a bit more vague is respawn timing. If I come upon a bashing ground and suspect that it had been only partially cleared out before (i.e., some of the denizens would respawn 20-30 minutes apart from the others), I'll leave it be, in the hope that all the respawns will be re-synchronized if the area is left alone for a while. I'm not sure how others approach this.

Finally, I have yet to be insulted and/or attacked by disgruntled competitors. Most of the conduct I've encountered is pretty sportsmanlike.

Back when I hunted I would get jumped all the time. Or when I'm hunting merians someone who go to the trouble of assassinating Gognigin so I can't turn in the corpses. I'd be pretty reluctant to attack you because for fear of the verbal backlash. You would write an essay in retaliation.

You live in Glomdoring. Most of the people (at this point in the Lusternian timeline) that will jump someone while they're hunting live in Glomdoring.

I'm kind of sad for the state of other games when common courtesy is "interesting". sad.gif

I usually do the same as Felicia, unless I need corpses for a quest, in which case I tend to offer to buy them at relatively high prices. I think I bought 10 rockeaters from a novice once for 2k gold to get Tosha done.

When I first became Champion, I was jumped a few times on Astral by Narsrim and Dysolis. Dysolis stopped jumping me when I killed him. Narsrim, I think, was just surprised I fought back and didn't just run screaming every time.

Most people who get jumped are the ones who seem least likely to fight back (and win).

You've never invaded my bashing area obviously.

I don't have a lot of respect for certain individuals and would argue that some of them are bullies that would flee at the first sign of resistance. From my experience if I'm able to successfully escape they'll just come back the next time with two or three buddies which is completely overkill. I'd be much more satisfied to overcome the odds and face a challenge, but some people are just happy to prey on the weak and helpless.

I've been killed while bashing before (though opportunistically, not by an actual competitor, which is what I meant), seen companions killed, and I take it in stride. I've never read anyone the riot act in-game. Most of the essaying takes place here on the forum, where... topics of discussion can escalate to critical mass in two shakes of a lamb's tail, over the most innocuous of subjects. Eventru has had to deflate these sorts of things on countless occasions. Unfortunately, I have been part of the problem on several occasions.

For some reason, the curious mixed atmosphere of friendliness and sarcasm weakens my ability to know when it's prudent to exit an escalating conversation. As of yesterday, I put a Post-IT note on my computer screen reminding me to GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN. We shall see if it works. smile.gif

@Zarquan:

Oh, is that why? Well, dang.

Do you base your forum skin on where your main character lives too? wub.gif
