Hi! Welcome to the 21st century! There are 13.7 million more where I came from.

I actually use a telnet program on mine to access the game sometimes. It works fairly well, but typing fast is hard.

Yeah, I check the forums all the time from work. Now, if only there was a good iPhone mud client...

I saw that the Ta... however you spell the monk guild in Celest didn't have anyone in almost any position. It makes me want to make an alt to help them out!
Except I can't fight at all, and I imagine monks are rather like warriors in that you're more expected to be a fighter in a guild like that.

I'm guessing. That's a reason I've never seriously tried out a warrior guild. Warrior, by definition, seems to indicate that you'll need to fight. Monk seems like a sort of warrior type of thing only more martial artsy.
Kiradawea2009-06-22 16:27:28
Monk means you have to bash.
Anyway, the Tahtetso guild have quite a few problems from what I've heard, and while more members is good for any guild, I think that what that guild needs is some willfull and creative individuals willing to go beyond the call of duty. What they need the most is a reason to exist though. RP-wise, you could remove Tahtetso (and Cantors too) and the city would be essentially the same. Tahtetso (and Cantor) is essentially just an alternate fighting style, and not identification of character or relation to organization.

Yet another reason why releasing Hallifax, Gaudiguch, and Ackleberry with new Guardian/Mage/Druid specs would have been a better idea than bards and monks.
I wonder if people will ever get tired of saying this.

Dunno, but I'm kinda tired of hearing it. Monks are nifty. If I could fight worth a darn, I'd be in one.
And so what if there's no historical significance or even a significance that ties strongly to the org. What's wrong with only being loosely affiliated with the City and focusing inwardly for meaning based on the history and foundation of the guild? If I were in charge of the Tahtet... whatever, that's what I'd do. I'd ignore the 'ties to the city' aspect of things, and work on making sure the guild had a strong notion of themselves as a guild. Then, so what if you could move them out of the city and it wouldn't impact the city?
Kiradawea2009-06-22 17:30:46
Then... they shouldn't get to benefit from being part of an organization in the first place. Sure, it is up to them if they want to be leeches, but the city has no obligation to tolerate them.
Casilu2009-06-22 17:42:41
And people wonder why the monk and bard guilds are always struggling, so much hatred and bitterness from the playerbase. Yeesh.

Monks might be neat (I personally have never felt like monks had a place in Lusternia, but then again I'm not the game designer). But what you said is basically true : they're neat and if you were a fighter you'd play as one. Basically what Kira said, just an alternate fighting style.
Even if they weren't a bad addition to the game (which is arguable), did they benefit the game as a whole, and make Lusternia a better experience, than the new orgs would have?
Possibly, but I'm strongly inclined to say no. Some orgs have benefited better than others, though. Spiritsingers fit in pretty well with Serenwilde after their skills were changed to use the spirit system. The Mag/Glom monk/bard guilds have worked pretty well RP wise...but I'm of the opinion that it's easier to do 'evil' RP than 'good' RP. Shofangi, Cantors, and Tahtetso don't seem to have a place.

I personally like the RP of the Shofangi. Sure wish learning Shofangi actually had a script

Shofangi was awesome. *wistful*
They're actually set up to be just like the SG.

That was a response to Noola. If a guild refuses to adapt to the city, the city has no obligation to adapt to the guild.

Um, I'm not saying that they never help or give back. Where did I say that? I just mean, that their entire cultural identity shouldn't have to be wrapped up in Celest (or Magnagora, or Serenwilde or Glomdoring). I'm saying the City affiliation could take a back seat to the Guild affiliation. Kind of, "We're Tahetos (only spelled correctly). We also live in Celest."

Celest really is the only place with that problem. It seems to be more that the city doesn't want to integrate the guilds more than the guilds don't want to adapt to the city. I've been a monk nearly everywhere, Celest seems to be the only place where the people don't accept and actually seem bitter towards the new guilds. That's just what I noticed, on the Star Council and in most of the monk guilds.
