Starting August/end of July, the Graduate Studies and Ph.D. programs are going to be cutting down drastically on students they accept. If you want in, you need to get your stuff in NOW. If you wait, the chances of you being accepted will get slimmer and slimmer. For my department alone, we've already begun the process of closing our doors. If you want in any of the Finer Humanities or Humanities, or even the College of Letters, you need to get your stuff in immediately. This includes your letters of recommendation, your academic background from your previous universities/colleges, as well as your GRE/GMAT et cetera.

Once again, get your stuff in NOW. Do NOT wait until the nearing deadline. I can promise you that your chances of getting accepted will be slim to none, unless you write one hell of an essay, are one seriously talented student, et cetera. As my boss put it, "It would take a letter of recommendation from the President of the United States to move them into even being considered. It would take a letter from God to move them into getting accepted if they wait until mid-July."

College sucks.

By the way, MSU= Michigan State University. Just to clear up any confusion.

Edit: One more thing, if you're an international student or an OoS student planning to apply, then you need to get it in before July 7th. From what I'm seeing, you might be a little too late but please try anyways. If anything, you can be put on the waiting lists being created now for next year. Best of luck to everyone who will or has applied.

Heh, I was wondering. In my neck of the woods MSU is something very different.

Yeah. I know there's a few other univs. or colleges that use MSU also.

The down side of anyone going to MSU is you are/will be a sparty.

Surely you're referring to the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda?

Still try. I'm not in the FA circle that much, so you might still have a chance. However, you are going to need to decide by next Monday and initiate the application process very quickly after that. As I said before, doors are starting to get closed to graduate studies and the Ph.D. studies. If its an undergrad, then you'll be fine. Its the higher departments that are about to shut their doors until Fall of next year.

Why are they accepting so few people? It seems like colleges would want people's money.

I've been searching for a job for literally years and haven't found anything that I could get reliable transport to (including walking). I might just join the military to fulfill my basic survival needs.

In before a crapstorm of "LOL DON'T JOIN THE ARMY LOL WARS ARE BAD LOL GUNS ARE BAD LOL I VOTED FOR OBAMA" by whiny liberal twits.

Positive correlation, I do detect.

Right, that's why over 80% of people who graduate from college aren't expected to get a job anytime soon?

QUOTE
According to a survey from National Association of Colleges and Employers, the class of 2009 is leaving campus with fewer jobs in hand than their 2008 counterparts. The group's 2009 Student Survey found that just 19.7 percent of 2009 graduates who applied for a job actually have one.

Gross statistics often gloss over important things like regional variations. You people with overpriced property out on the coasts can put people out onto the street in droves without affecting the easy availability of jobs in the upper Midwest.

So you're suggesting that going to college does not increase your chances of getting a job dramatically, and that having nothing but a high school education will serve basically the same purpose?

If over 80% of college graduates can't find a job, how do you think non college graduates will fare?

Also, if the poster in question knows how to use the world 'literally' correctly, they've been looking for a job before the economy took a swan dive into the pavement.

Maybe back in the day if you knew how to program you could get a job without going to college, but that doesn't cut it anymore.

Also, I would say that about 80% of people who go to college major in something that isn't conducive to finding a job. If you're going to pay a ton of money to get an education, get it in something that will benefit you.

edit: But even then, just HAVING a college degree, no matter what it's in, puts you miles above people without one.

edit2: Also, my comment was directed more towards the attitude and philosophy of the person in question rather than their credentials. Though it probably applies in both places.
Daganev2009-07-01 16:35:22
In 2007, the same sort of survey showed that over 51% of graduates had jobs if they applied for one. (in case you didn't understand the context)

What I am suggesting, is that thinking that college sucks, has no bearing on the ability of someone to get a job. (especially, when the issue at hand is transportation)

What bearing does this have on the question of whether or not college sucks?

College does suck. Just ask Bill Gates. smile.gif

I'll make sure to find a job after college. I'll just learn Korean, Arabic, Persian, and French.
Daganev2009-07-01 17:09:36
Don't bother with french, they have worse unemployment than we do.
