A blogger I regularly read for technical stuff was talking about the strange ad campaign for Evony, which is a Civ like clone. Take a look at the blog entry and look how--for lack of a better term, "desperate" the ads became.

I was playing this because my fiance was Never saw the ads before. It was fun at first, but now I'm getting ganked six times in a row, all in one day, by the same person. It's pointless... I don't have time to build up anything.

Yeah, I joined because my brother wanted me to. Its actually fun but unless you make friends with everybody possibly in existance...you get owned. I spent a month building cities, defenses, armies, etc. Gone in a day - that!
