This isn't intended to be a rant, but some constructive criticism.

I have yet to see Yoftie at the Aetherplex and I won't while this event goes on because I'm going away for several days soon.

In other ire games limited edition items are often limited in number able to be bound and bind to a person. I would like the admin to consider this for those toys. I haven't been there for a rush, but I have heard the moment Yoftie arrives she is sold out within minutes by people buying more than they need.

Is this fair, no? Is it fair for Richter to buy them in bulk and then resell them at 100k each because the original source cannot fullfill her function? I don't think that was the intention.

Please consider limiting what can be bought admin to prevent those who get there first to make exorbitant profit off something that was intended for more than just the quick and those around at opportune times.

Again, my apologies, this isn't a rant, but I am unhappy at seeing such a markup and extortion, even if in-character for a greedy merchant.

This is just one more thing I'd miss out on anyway, no loss to me

Surprise!

Yeah, I've been trying for a few days to find her there and buy some. I've not had any luck yet and I've pretty much given up.

And no, I won't be buying any of the 100k ones for sale afterwords or whatever...all they do is emit a line.

Seems to be the hallmark of IRE muds though: things in very limited supply that someone else can easily mess up for you.
Llandros2009-07-15 12:48:25
I found her in the plex one time and bought a few, i got the gnome, peep, gingerbread man and two finks. I gave one of the finks away.

If you don't have the time to sit in the plex for hours on end or have the luck to run into her, i'm sure some people would be happy to pay extra if they really wanted one. Just saying...

I managed to buy the full set just now! Ahem, I only have one of each type!

You know, the other day Zynna mentioned over the city aether that she was there, so I hopped on over, not realizing she disappeared after a set amount had been bought from her. I got there, ask for wares, and right as I was about to pull out the appropriate gold, someone else (Forget the name, random Glommie) came in and bought out everything with what was obviously a preset script.

I was mad for about a minute, I suppose.
"Injustice!", I cried to myself.

Then I realized that whatever these things are (I've yet to actually play with one.) - they're just a little gold sink brought in for whatever reason, and that other, better things will come along in the future. Also, I have enough stuff that I'm lugging around.

I see the original point of the thread, and on a level agree. From a player perspective, it would be nice to somehow limit purchases (Or bind on buy so there's not temptation to resell) so that all, or a majority, could enjoy the flavour - especially little things like this where the cost of purchase is even in the range of newer players as opposed to things like auctions where the mighty credit whores (Myself included) battle it out for stuff.

On the other hand, from an IC perspective, it makes a lot of sense. Free market and all. People like Richter seem to have done well exploiting it in the past, (And I'm not implying anything negative with the term "exploit". The people who are given a set of rules and find a way to flourish within their bounds are the ones who generally succeed in all things.) and I'm not so sure that should change.

Maybe a mash up though. Sometimes little things for everyone, sometimes little or big things for opportunists and those who are lucky, skilled, or can sit in game for twenty hours a day.
Ishant2009-07-15 16:11:09
I waited for two or so hours and found her with only Elyonne there with me, so mission accomplished, but it was still a long time to wait sad.gif . I guess you have a point though Llandros.
Richter2009-07-15 19:24:09
The 100k isn't so I make a profit, it's so they dont sell. I'm trying to collect at least one of each, and am considering giving away the extras. Do you think any of the items in the rare and legendary categories actually sell? They're for you to look at, and me to feel accomplished about. As an achiever player type, I'm a bit of a hoarder too.

Good news for you is that I work most of the day -and- have a social life, so you have plenty of chances to get to the gnome lady. On to the next scapegoat!

Edit: I'm all for hard coding limits on how many a player can get. I'm not profiting or exploiting, I'm collecting. See also: every other rare item Lusternia has had.
Tervic2009-07-15 19:55:52
Out of curiousity, how much does Yoftie sell them for?

Llandros2009-07-15 19:59:10
I bought them for 1k each

On a related note, i don't know if this is how it's supposed to work but when i spoke with her she said she was out of stock but when i just handed her the cash she gave me a random toy.
Joli2009-07-15 20:34:11
I'm curious has to how long you waited before posting this thread? I have run into the gnome repeatedly and I'm not even looking for her, nor have I bought anything from her. Just yesterday someone left an entire set of the dolls at the pool of stars because the owner didn't want them and they stayed there for a good long time, at least a couple of hours. If you wanted something bad enough to rant about it on the forums, then why wouldn't you put forth the effort in sitting at the aetherplex? It's not like you have to search for her. She just sits there.

Another thing, it is common place for shop owners to place rare items in their storerooms so that they do not decay. This has been going on for years now, so before you start accusing people of 'exploiting the system' maybe do a little bit of research or even ask someone if they had an extra set to sell or didn't want. If it offended you so terribly you could of at least gotten the name of the person who has obviously made up a code to buy out the old woman. I'm not sure if it is considered abuse but without a name the Divine don't really have anything to go on.

Edit: Sorry if I sound like a douche. Mildly aggravated. <3
Shaddus2009-07-15 20:49:29
It's not abuse to make an alias. Hell, half the game uses Ethelon's, and all we would have to do is use #10 buy doll from gnome (whatver the syntax is, I don't know)

I didn't mean aliases in general... They wouldn't have made it so you could make them at all if that was abuse.

Edit: It just seems like it would be a crappy thing to do in this situation since it takes the fun out of the entire event for everyone else if someone swoops down and buys out the place in 5 seconds, regardless if anyone else was there. Even if it isn't technically against the rules it'd still be nice to know who the censor.gif are in this game.
Richter2009-07-15 21:06:14
Aliases are not the issue, people buying her out are the issue. FYI, I've been there twice. Both times I walked up to her and casually purchased some toys. Heck, the second time, there were other players in the aetherplex. If you write me a sad enough story, I may toss you an extra of mine. Make sure to include how the gnome lady ran over your dog.

I'm assuming this was responding to my use of the term exploit... because I was the only one who used it. If not, ignore this. Or ignore it either way.

If you reread what I said, I wasn't referring to them putting things in their shops for storage at high prices to imply they were circumventing the decay code and that was an "exploit".

Furthermore, I also wasn't implying that using an alias to buyout something was improper or an exploit. I was actually trying to compliment ambitious people, but I apparently failed to get my point across.

I put it in parenthesis, but I guess it didn't have the effect I was intending. I wasn't using exploit in the negative sense. As in, not in the sense that they were somehow breaking the rules. I meant it in the fashion that they were taking advantage of the rules.
