In search of inspiration and more practice, I'll be offering designing services for the next little while.
I'm not asking for anything in return - just some unique ideas.
Tell me what you want, what you want it for, if you want it to have a certain theme or use certain materials, etc.
I'm particularly looking for weapons to design. I've only done two (a custom athame for a friend and a ritualistic Shadowdancer-themed dagger), but would like to exercise my creativity in that area.
As a disclaimer, I've never designed any culinary items, but am willing to try.
Edit: I also design rooms!

I'm seriously considering implementing a pay for design service. Submit ANY item to me, and if it's good, I'll pay that person for it. Maybe 1cr or so?

Will you be submitting it as a public design or as one of the private Deepnight Cartel designs? If so, will we have access to it after submitting even if we're not a member of the Masters?
Richter2009-07-17 00:53:38
Submitting it to whichever cartel it's appropriate for: blackanvil, fates, hoard, craftwork, delights, or silverscribe. They will be submitted as private, but anyone is eligible to join the cartels, and we don't have restricted designs.

Can you help me design the Nightshade Estate, and this carpet I have in mind, to place all over the house?
Rancoura2009-07-18 22:08:38
Aye.
But I'm already helping to design the Estate, I thought.

a tribal instrument, mandolin preferable.

A honeycake ring!
Rancoura2009-08-15 02:23:48
Hands are full with nearly more design projects than I can handle at the moment, so needless to say... this is being put on pause.

Currently designing custom items for free. (Not trying to take Rancoura's business away, just offering.)
I've designed quite a few custom pieces, mostly kata weapons. If you take a look at Jozen's custom plate, I designed that. Also willing to submit custom pieces through cartels if you aren't looking to pay 50 credits. Working for pretty much anyone.

The neat thing is, there could be any number of meanings to it, depending on how one applies your signature!
Mirami2009-09-09 02:41:24
Always looking for more tribal greatrobe designs (for loboshigaru), in leather lined with cloth, and with silver stitching on the exterior... Looking for a brown/silver-stitched set, and a green/brown set with some silver stitching that's more stealthy.

Just to show some of the crazy things I've designed, here are a few private instruments.
Sthai helped with this one.

Item: Mandolin Type: Instruments Org: Anshienjiku
Commodities: penguin 1 peep 2 iron 50 snowball 20 wood 65 redtint 20 yellowtint 20 coal 30 goldtint 15 steel 20 gems 15
Container: No Can Have Lock: No
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: MANDOLIN
Appearance:
a gnomish toymaker's mandolin
Dropped:
Twinkling merrily from the ground here is a small gnomish mandolin, made from castoff toys.
Examined:
Though crafted partially from wood, a majority of this small mandolin is
pieced together from bits and pieces of toys one might find at the trash
bin in a gnomish toyshop. The headstock is iron, smelted from toy
soldiers and moulded into shape. A bit of colour left from the soldier's
uniforms still peeks through here and there in the iron, mostly red from
the vests and a bit of black from the hats. The body is white pine,
though glazed with a thin layer of what could very well be melted peeps
to give it a gritty feel when touched. Strung with white and black
penguin hide, this mandolin is anything but ordinary in appearance. From
the end of the headstock hangs a small steel and glass vial, filled with
a watery liquid and what appears to be a small snowball floating
suspended in it. Upon the back of the mandolin is a small symbol inset
into the wood, that of a golden gear bearing wings.

Commodities: infernobeetle 1 turquoise 20 sapphire 20 steel 10 wood 50
Container: No Can Have Lock: No
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: LUTE
Appearance:
an aerial, gem-wrought lute of the slaugh
Dropped:
A graceful lute lies here.
Examined:
Aerial, flowing lines reminiscent of shrouds envelop the neck and belly
of this elongated, graceful lute. Shards of black obsidian glimmer with
cold, flawless ebon beside sickly green turquoise, whilst golden and
lavender lengths of sapphire suggest the hooded form of a slaugh.
Occlusions swirl across the turquoise and the black maple that overlay
much of the instrument, suggesting spectres or shadowy woods within the
gleaming lines. The strings are tarnished steel fastened to tuning pegs
carved from polished wood; the fingerboard is of similar alloy, and
engraved with the phrase 'Fai Glomdoring!'.

Stop hijacking my thread.
Edit: Those are nice, though.
Bhiele2010-08-29 00:09:57
I know this is an old thread. I apologize for the necromancy! So I would love to hear random designs for bridal wedding attire. I would prefer the gown to resemble an upturned black rose, if that makes sense. Generally I am great with my own designs, but I also have to design around ten other unique items and wouldn't mind a little help. If I use one of the designs I will pay at least ten credits, and gold and herbs or whatever to show my appreciation. Here is my description...it is for Bhiele in Glomdoring.
She is a nimble shadowsinger faeling and is dainty and fragile in appearance. The sharp angles of her face bear an ashen pallor that gives her visage the appearance of being bathed in muted moonlight. Her hair is a rich dark sable color that she wears smoothed into an intricate twist. A few strands emerge around her forehead, curling along her cheeks. Her eyes are over large, and widely set, their color a deep moss-green that in some light, ameliorates to a golden hue. Fragile wings are a mottled black and grey and torn like antique lace rise from her shoulders. She has adorned them with spider webbing that allows various blossoms and fragrant herbs to adhere to them. She has been anointed with sandalwood oils that leave a delicate and subtle scent in her wake. Her stance is proud, her chin lifted upward in a pose of challenge and defiance.
(anyone can pick apart my description too, but please do so in PM's so we don't clog up Rancoura's thread. )
Nothing too gothic or emo please, but it must be black. Lord Shikari is performing the service and Bhiele's gown has to hide blood. Thank you in advance for help!

One of my first!
Commision: Wedding Armour -- Current Version
Item: Fullplate Type: Masterarmour Org: -------
Commodities: iron 200; merian 2; Ruby 4
Appearance:
a fullplate wedding dress of iron blades
Dropped:
a wedding dress of ancient blades and blacked iron lies here.
Examined:
Emanating menace and a wicked elegance, this suit of fullplate is
constructed of overlapping blackened iron plates, crafted in the shape
of a formfitting wedding dress. Bleached white merian skulls, crowned
with blood-flecked iron spikes, serve as paulderons, their jaw less
mouths open in an eternal silent scream. The bodice is formed of a
cascade of blackened iron plates, tapering towards the waist, to
accentuate the figure of the warrior who bears it. Curves of iron, like
the petals of a deadly flower, arc to each side of the wearers throat,
leaving it bare and attractive to the discerning eye. The neckline
plunges daringly to the navel, exposing a thin strip of flesh, cunningly
defended by the angle of the razor edged plates around it. Blasphemous
runes, inscribed with glittering ruby dust, decorate each iron plate
that forms the waist. Dozens of curved iron blades, their tips almost
touching the earth, explode from the hips, forming a full bell shaped
skirt. The pitted, ancient blades clash against each other in
counterpoint to the wearers movements, generating a soft whisper, like
the mutterings of the dead. Keen-edged black-iron daggers, trophies from
fallen foes, are bound together at the forearms, serving as deadly
vambraces. A tiny ivory carving of a grinning rats skull, streaked with
mud, is bonded to the metal plates at the small of the back.
